I did ask if there was any reason why the OP couldn’t just go home six posts into the thread.

No answer as yet…

W

Not able to go home as I live and am based over 100 miles away at another depot.

Normally when my truck is in overnight I take the train to the mother in laws and that doesn’t bother me. Last weeks situation came about after I discovered i had left my wallet at home and having no cash I couldn’t get the train.
Anyway I just wanted other peoples opinions and I got them so thanks for the replies. Just goes to show what a divided bunch us “professionals” are.

I’ll not rise to the bait of the road gods. You know who you are

Fair enough mate, only asking.

I still wouldn’t advise sleeping in a warehouse though. We had a major fire in one of ours before Christmas, it was that bad it made national TV.

Another solution could of been to ask for a sub from petty cash for the train fare. Might of been less hassle than a big row with the Gaffer?

there we go, now we know where you are going wrong

To be fair it was answered in the third sentence of the opening post to this thread, 23 minutes before you asked the question. :stuck_out_tongue:

I admire your comprehension Coffee but I was more intrested in the OPs case rather than the firms standard practice.

(not that I had not noticed that bit in the OP haha).

The third sentence of the original post is about the OP’s case.

I hope this helps.

It’s still not the meaning I got by the third sentence. Then again you have been reading truck drivers posts for a lot longer than I have…

I doubt that this helps.

I think you missed this bit.

I am based at a depot that has no workshop facility and when my truck is due for service it is done overnight at our main yard.

Which I took to mean the driver is outbased and goes to the main yard in another town or county or even country.

Although the OP didn’t answer my question either, how often does your truck get serviced?

When I read your quoted sentence it just tells me that the OPs truck is serviced overnight at the main depot and not at the OPs depot, nothing more.

The rest of the thread (and the title) tell me that the OP has been or may be called upon to sleep over in a warehouse at the main depot.

I missed the link and that is why I asked why he didn’t go home. To the OPs credit he gave me a straightforward reply even though I might of come across as a smart arse.

Pretty sure this is no help at all.

Most helpful. Now I know how your mind works I will have a better insight with regard to your posts.

Thankyou.

Sounds to me like it will be a porta cabin within the w/house with an adjacent washroom p/cabin and that the w/house is open, although possibly not operational, all night.
Pics would have helped.

Having often slept in extremely basic rooms at such as “The Rookery,” “Jack’s Hill Cafe,” “The Hollies,” “Colonels’ Cafe” and a MAN dealers whilst delivering new & used trucks on trade plates in the mid nineties,it all sounds like much a do about nothing.

OP have you ever shared a driver’s cabin on a ferry?

You wont get much sleep in a whorehouse and I don’t think it’s legal.

Do you mean that I skim through other peoples posts in the desperate rush to blurt out something I might know that might be on a slightly similar theme?

Guilty as charged M’lud!

markybhoy76:
‘… is it indeed legal to have staff sleep in commercial premises…?’

What does their legally required Workplace Risk Assessment say?

markybhoy76:
‘… would you do it legal or not…?’

Possibly, but not gladly.

markybhoy76:
‘…I was told that my behaviour was not what he expected from a ‘professional driver’…’

Upon which I’d courteously respond that their expectation is disrespectful to an employee in 21st century Britain and consider posting the situation - with pictures as evidence - to their district council, their MP, the Traffic Commissioner, their insurers, TNUK, etc, etc - although I doubt if I’d work for them to begin with.

No.

So to sum up the two pages so far.

You forgot your wallet so couldn’t stay with relatives or book into a hotel but at least you got a bed for the night, albeit in not ideal circumstances but still a bed none the less?

So the moral of the story is don’t forget your wallet?

Thankyou.

I used to spend the night in a garage whilst my truck was serviced. They supplied a car to go home, but since I lived 90 miles from the garage I spent the night in the drivers waiting room, there were hard plastic chairs, radio blaring out from the workshop, people in and out all night for the vending machine. But at least it was better than a 180 mile car trip, its not right I know but such is the ‘profession’. Maybe in another 50 years things might improve, but I doubt it.
