Hi Not been over to France for a while. Just read that you can no longer sleep in your truck over weekend! And that you must stay in a hotel! If you don’t comply you can be heavily fined! Has anyone been fined or know someone who has?
You can still take a reduced rest in your cab, it’s only the full weekly rest that they got “clarification” from the EU about not being allowed in the cab.
Not sure how much it’s being policed though, I believe the French fine the operator not the driver, so maybe they have a list of operators they target and work on getting enough evidence to go after them.

knowing my luck I’ll be collered as I’m an owner driver. [emoji84][emoji598]
As Muckles says it’s only a compulsory full break that must taken away from the vehicle. Your first weekend break away from base can be taken in cab. At least that’s the way I understand it.
One of our drivers was pulled at a roadside ‘control’. He was ok on that score, but was in trouble for something else. There was another driver in trouble there for taking multiple weekends away from base with no hotel receipts etc. So it seems it may be part of routine checks now? The driver in trouble apparently was held until his employer sent across a hefty payment.
They seem to be trying to catch those who go tramping for months on a shoestring, not those eho are weekended now’n’then.
It’s tucked away in GV262 (drivers hours and tacho regs handbook).
I’m not 100% certain of the exact wording, but it goes something along the lines of;
A weekend rest should be 45 hours. It can be reduced to 24 hours.
If a reduced rest is taken, the reduction must be paid back within the next 3 weeks, in one piece.
A reduced weekend rest must be followed by a full weekend rest. A reduced weekend rest can be taken in the cab.
Like I said, I can’t remember the exact wording used, but I don’t think I’ve added or subtracted anything important.
The main point is that the regs doesn’t say “a weekend rest may be taken in the cab.”
They specifically say “a reduced rest”, which implies that a full 45hr rest can not be taken in the cab. And this is the bit drivers and companies are being fined for.
I’m fairly sure this line was added to the regs at the 2007 update. That’s the update which incorporated the WTD and digi-tacho regs.

I know exactly which company you mean mate. I know some of their ex drivers. Admittedly since they are EX drivers they wont be fans, but Ive never heard them say “I wish I was back with ■■■”.
How did you find your crossing from the western end of the English Channel a few weeks ago? Better than Calais I hope?
