Slaidburn

took 1 pallet of 90kgs to Lower Stoney Bank yesterday.
Nearly oh so close to getting stuck on the river bridge at Horrocksford / Pimlico
No weight or length resriction or advisory signs not to go the way i did
any ways got over with the help of a woman and a jogger.

Bust 2 curtains straps when i caught the parapet
defo a no go in an artic
did i mention it was mega spec and i had to lift the suspension to clear
the bridge wall.

Maybe i should have tried to reverse from delivery to a turning point
the way in was a bit easier.

No easy way to Slaidburn!!! Only way is to go past Castle Cement (Hanson) over West Bradford bridge TIGHT!!! Past Smalley and Simpsons old yard into West Bradford turn left to Waddington AGAIN TIGHT!! Turn right in Waddingtonto Newton/Slaidburn over Waddington fell. Or if your on M6 come of for Lancaster and take the Trough of Bowland road.

Used to go that way when used to deliver to the water treatment plant, used to get some strange looks in Slaidburn. Tight old place.

Back in the late sixties and early seventies (when I was a kid!), I used to live in the big cottage next to the river bridge as you leave the village to go to the reservoir.

The water co was doing some pretty big works up there at the time and one day a lowloader arrived with a tracked machine onboard and he couldn’t make it, so he simply took it off the truck, drove it over the bridge, then drove the truck over, put it all back together again - job done. :sunglasses:

The road from the top of the fell down to Waddington was notorious for runaways back then too. I can clearly remember a laden 4 wheel dropside passing us kids in the centre of the village with smoke pouring from the rear brakes, engine screaming but at least he was only doing about twenty mph, that last 1 in 8 bit must have been a bit entertaining! Eventually they put in an emergency sand drag.

When i was about 12 years old one of Waddington Fells 8 Legger Fodens crashed through the old smithy in the centre of Waddington, scary because anybody who,s been down t,fell road knows how steep it is! The driver tried to ditch it in the brook but ended up in t,smithy. The Foden was dragged of to TGB in Clitheroe and i remember seeing it in the yard :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

all i can say is i was not running very heavily
sure were some steep hills and sharp bends

And didn’t it make a mess. I remember this well and the driver was hailed a hero and luckily he got away pretty much unscathed but the truck was on it’s side in the rubble. TGB, that’s a name from the past!

you should have turned off the a59 at sawley ,gone through sawley village and crossed the river.much easier,we take lowloaders this way
