Does anyone on here use the simplon pass to transit switzerland going to and from italy? Have never been on this route but have heard its a handy alternative of using the basel to chiasso route especially with delays at the gotthard tunnel at this time of year.
What are the pros and cons of this route also where can you get t-forms done in italy when going north to transit swiss?
transit docs are available before the border.
against high fuel consumption, wear and tear on brakes if not careful
for gladly the weighbridge is too small to get anything bigger than a 7.5 tonner on it so they have to your word for it
Brian / r slicker on here is the man to ask about the Simplon, I think he was running along there every week for ages, probably knows it as well as any truck driver

Thanks craig. yep twice a week every week. depends what weight your running at tbh. but its the cheapest way into and out of swiss, bit of a bind through visp etc but otherwise a great route to take. and its a military route so even when it snows it does not take long to clear it. HTH
Simplon is a great route, I have been over it in the depth of winter and it is generally clear whatever the weather. T Forms going north can be obtained at DHL, Villadossola about 25kms before the swiss border.
Simplon is one of the most scenic routes you’ll ever go down in a lorry, especially at the start of winter, as has been said, the roads are cleared of snow very efficiently, but then so are all the rest of the Swiss roads, they wait until it stops snowing and get stuck into it big time.
Thanks for all of your replies, definetely want to try this route to avoid the delays at the gotthard tunnel at this time of year when transitting swiss to go to/from italy.
