Siemens don’t get the bad press that H&R do, they’ve tidied up their fleet lately too, which was the main negative I had heard (and seen) about them.

From all I’ve heard of H&R I wouldn’t touch them with a barge pole, it’s a long way to come to find your face doesn’t fit, I know of quite a few people who earn a decent living on there, but there’s too much room for it all to go wrong to recommend them as far as I’m concerned

Hi thanks for the reply.its food for thought

And remember there are many companies under siemens banner…edge,HWT,Kindersley+ some i cannt remember
jimmy

Neither, go for a smaller company.

H&R will get you the experience you need but don’t bring your family because you will never see them again. H&R just send you out and expect you to be happy if you get home about once every 3 months.

How the hell this man know’s about H&R the above post is not true by any mean’s.

From what im aware H & R is more a case of if your face fits than anything else, i know someone working there at the moment and hes getting good regular kms but i have also heard some drivers can be sat for over 24 hours waiting for loads sometimes and if the wheels arent turning, the pocket aint earning !!

There isn’t a job out there that won’t have you sitting for 24hrs once in a while, at some places it’s so infrequent that I wouldn’t be bothered about being paid or not, if the miles are there, you will earn good wages.

This man knows from several friends who have made the leap and started there OK.
They treat people like crap.

That’s not strictly true, I’ve been very critical of H&R and the other driver importers in the past, with good reason, but many people do ok at these firms.

As with most good news, people keep it to themselves, bad news sells remember.

If you play the game, there is no reason why you can’t have a good experience, but you’ll have to play to their rules, not yours :bulb:

I had 3 good years on the road & 2 good years shunting with them, no complaints about the money from me.
So like Newmercman says, different strokes for different folks.

Not saying any thing about treatment of people,The thing here is H&R do NOT send or want truck’s out for three month’s or even one month,It just don’t work like that there,As you should know a Canadian truck must return to Canada every trip,Allthough a driver could work for as many month’s just resetting if he/she wanted to but to try and run wild for three month’s without going back to one’s base would be a very difficult thing to achive.

siemens is better than H&R.
i did work for H&R and i left them after half year like others. after 4 weeks wont give you enough miles,
they let you wait some where in USA for days UNPAYED. than you gonna wait for days in toronto (Missisauga) for a load,
than same story in winnipeg than same story in calgary. all this unpayed waiting for a load.
forget PR. they wont support you because they know if you get it you gonna leave them.
all driver gonna tell you the same story. (Hotel SAMDMAN Lethbridge)

With H&R if your face fits you be fine some drivers there are away for a week at a time some for 3 weeks and some don’t see Lethbridge for a reset for months (yes even if based there) One driver I know there left just over a week ago and prepared himself to be out for a month. You could live in Lethbridge but they try or at least try to get you to reset in Calgary if they ‘can’t find a load back’ for you. If you wanna reset in the states the option is yours

What is it like at Siemens then ?
Plenty of miles ?
Decent tackle ?
Which company in Siemens group do you work for ?

In all fairness Neil it’s changed since I started there so would have changed hell of a lot since your time lol I know one of their favorites now is to sit in Little Chute WI for a while pick up pizza bound for Calgary take as far as Winnipeg MB drop there for a pike to take it while you sit there twiddling your thumbs

I’m not disputing the fact it has changed, I still have mates there and what you’re saying is right but are Siemens lot any better, I don’t think so.
All these bigger companies are about the same, and until something is done about the amount of LMO’s they get, nothing will change.

I think this sums it up. I know we’re all here thanks to LMO’s and it would be somewhat ironic to criticize that system but after having being here for 5 years and seeing what goes on and how things run in this country in transport, its blatantly obvious that many of these crap companies only exist as they do purely because of this huge revolving door of foreign drivers. Its not only the large firms either, there are many small companies in the Maritimes who only exist because the vast majority of their drivers are from various European countries and no sooner than 5 get absolutely fed up, can’t take any more and leave, 5 more arrive to take their place, full of hopes and dreams of what it will be like, only to be totally burned out after 6-12 months and so the door revolves again.

I don’t understand why companies have this “don’t give a crap” policy, you’d think it would be better for them to retain drivers, who learned the job & do it right, treat them right rather than constantly training new drivers.
It can’t be cheap either, recruiting overseas when you think of what it must cost for flights, hotels, immigration specialists etc. to do all this recruiting.
And then, why are the Gov department that deals with immigration not asking why these companies need so many LMO’s and maybe limiting them more or giving every driver, after 12 mth’s here, a questionaire to fill out about the company they work for.
I can just be thankful I was treated pretty good, got my PR, moved on & have a half decent paying job now.
