i no somtimes they may shunt up the road to other depot but maybe once a week
If not going on the public highway then no tacho is needed by law as internal shunting for a whole shift does not come under EU regs
Many that do internal shunting do not have LGV licences but are internally trained which is perfectly legal.

If you do a day or two agency work during your 4 off days, which comes under EU Driver’s Hours rules, then you will need to complete a chart for each day you are shunting in that week, it will all count as other work for the tacho rules. These charts just need your name, the date and your start and finish times on them. You could also record the details on a printout or by means of the manual entry facility on the digi tacho instead of paper charts.

so the tacho from shunting would be my proof of hours worked not actual hours driving , not sure which reg it wud fall under, driving rules or wtd, if i didnt add tacho for shunting there would be no paper trail, but in theory it wud look like i only worked agency , the shunting will probably be 4x 12 hours which will be my 48 working week , unless i used poa when not shunting to keep hours down , if that makes sense

The shunting work will not fall under the WTD for mobile workers, it will be under the WTD normal people have. You can opt out of that one so it really won’t matter what hours you work shunting. The only hours which will fall under the mobile workers WTD is the agency work and you won’t get anywhere near 48 hours a week doing that.
The charts you need to fill in for the shunting is for the tacho rules, and you will only need to complete them in a week when you actually do agency work. If it is shunting only in a week you don’t need to fill them in.

very interesting …its an avenue ive never tried… in respect to working the 48 over the 4 days that dosent effect my driving wtd, but will effect my tacho rules as soon as i drive 4 agency but if am only shunting how will this effect my tacho rules and why record it, and how will it effect the ammount of driving i can do with agency… got the old grey matter going now

Correct.

In a week where you drive for the agency you will have to record the shunting work - not in detail, just the start and finish times - because it counts as other work for the tacho rules. It isn’t going to effect the amount of driving you can do for the agency but it will have a bearing on the number of days you can work. This is because in a week where you drive under EU rules you must observe weekly rest periods as required by the tacho regs.
In simple terms doing 4 on and 4 off in the shunting job and doing agency work each week you should be able to do 2 of the 4 off days each week and still comply with the weekly rest requirements.
The thing to watch is that any two consecutive fixed weeks has at least one regular rest period of at least 45 hours and one reduced of between 24 and 45 hours. Sticking to 4 days shunting, two days for the agency then two days off before resuming the shunting work should keep you legal, but keep an eye on each week having the required rest.

You treat the tachos used to record the days you are shunting as you would any other tacho, have them available for roadside checks etc.
