No problem Chris if you blink you could miss Ryton X1 towns ! We don’t have all the big firms that we used too have in Shropshire. There used too be Swains of Stretton from Church Stretton,Cadwalladers from Oswestry,D &N morgans from Craven Arms and LLoyds of Ludlow From Ludlow. They have all gone now I think the biggest firms in Shropshire now is Pentons and Grocott from Whitchurch. Tony
I think it was D&Ns went first then Swains of Stretton next then Cadwalladers and lastly LLoyds last. When I was a kid in the 70’s they were every where. Later on a friend of mine drove a bit for Swains and his dad looked after the French side for them. Tony
Another list of hauliers I remember Tony, also I’m old enough to remember Direct Transport from Gobowen as well.I didn’t know Grocott was still going though, they’ve been operating a long time and they used to run a lot of MANs - you lose touch living in the Isle of Man .
Hi lads: Heres my contribution to the EMC galleries. I remember taking this snap in the 1980’s at The Rendevous Cafe, between St Neots and Cambridge.
Yes Grocotts are going well a load of new MAN trucks and a massive yard in Whitchurch . Tony
Hi boys
Yes Grocotts are well and truly going. We are about to start striping the next ground for the next new shed.I took a machine there last week but fetched it away again because of all the bad weather.Surpossed to be going back there next week.
Regards Keith.

Hi Keith,
My boss bought four second hand tippers off them in about 1970,one of which was a Bedford KM,a couple were Dodge kew’s and a Dodge K series, would think they packed up many years ago,the KM was on an F plate OVT716F it was only about three years old when I got it or less,it had been on salt, the sills on the bed were rotted,he replaced them.
Cheers Dave.
ive found some in my desk at work of 2 brand new g reg caddys fl10 tractors and a pentons f 7 tractor will get them scanned when i get chance
Hi boys
Dave once brought a s/h TK 4 wheeler flat off a hide and skin co from Newtown, big mistake the salt had got in everywhere, kept it a couple of years then scrapped it.As bad as buying a car from the seaside .
Regards Keith.

Nice old moter John, can’t say I remember that firm. As for the salt Keith quite right about buying vehicles from the seaside,a firm I worked for bought second hand vans from Aberystwyth, real rust buckets as you say.
Cheers Dave.

Hi I was wondering if any of you guys remember a driver who won a Volvo 343 car in the late seventy s it was at the lorry driver of the year day at Cranfield but the competition was run by Volvo trucks and he won the first prize I am sure he was an owner driver and it was when the F10 was brought out as I was a runner up and got £100 of travel vouchers and just wondered how the guy went on from there as I don’t think he had been an owner driver too long. I know he was from Shropshire area but can’t think where a bouts now .
cheers Johnnie
