Hello there,
Many years before the walking floor trailers,-- I remember Roberts had a bulk trailer with a moving bulkhead to make unloading easier than tipping.
It probably worked well, untill they put a load of slag in it from Corby. When they started to unload,-- the slag
didn’t move back much - and the trailer sides burst outwards . I wonder if thy used that trailer again.
I think the driver could have been - Dennis Stokes ( correct me if i am wrong )
They were the good old days. Regards - Hywel.
Hi Hywel thanks for the interesting information i did not know that they had walking floor trailers . i assume that the slag was hauled back to Radco at Knighton , they would have hauled tinplate to metal box at Wisbech before going on to Corby regards kk

Hi - kingswinford
It wasn’t a Walking Floor trailer.- The trailer they had was in the 60s before the walking floor was thought of.
It was a Murfitt moving bulkhead bulk trailer – the headboard was moved back by hydraulic rams to push the load back through the tail board/doors. It was bulk slag – not in bags. They hauled grain and coal in the trailer. -regards Hywel.

Hi Hywel,
I don’t think Dennis Stokes drove an artic for Roberts,he drove the first lorry,an Atkinson eight wheeler for Gordon Roberts for a short time, then he went to work for an ex Brisbane driver who had set up in haulage in Coventry.Dennis then emigrated to Australia where he stayed for a few years,as the climate helped his health. He had suffered with rheumatic fever quite a bit.
They moved back here a few years later and he drove for Moterway Remoulds, before setting up his own tyre business in Cardiff.Sadly he passed away earlier in the year. I will ask his son Rob who drives a Daf eight wheeler for A E Gough if he did drive an artic.
Cheers Dave.

Hi Dave
Sorry I must have made a mistake about Dennis Stokes… but the story is true.
Here is a photo of the outfit. Please find out more about it.
Regards Hywel.
Hi Hywel,
I remember hearing about the trailer.I will find out off one of their old drivers.also TruckNet member atkidave who did a book about Roberts might know,as his Dad drove for Roberts.I knew Dennis Stokes well, because he was our next door neighbour for a few years and my Dad who drove for Passey Nott, worked with Dennis when he was on hire to Passey Nott from Brisbanes.
Cheers Dave.
This 1963 ERF KV was originally run by Blowers Transport Shrewsbury reg 5522 AW and is now in the Isle of Man Transport Heritage Museum at Jurby. She was bought by a local construction/demolition company called JCK Ltd over here and reliveried in their colours to celebrate 25 years of business. All the info can be seen in the first photo showing the details in the screen.
I remember Blowers,they ran in a green livery .
Hi boys
Chris that sounds like a good place to have a truck museum, you could drop off your better half at Jurby junk ( if she could stand the smell of cat ■■■■ )and you could spend the day reminiscing.PS nice to see the old ERF.
Regards Keith.

Hello chepstow that Scania could well be Barry Morgan at that time . It was possibly ex Laura Ashley at Carno but ,Barrys depot is the other side of Knighton on the Penybont road.
