gazzer:
I think this is ULJ782X when I had it. It was either new or second trip.
DAF salesman asked me what I thought about it: I didn’t like the fact that when descending a mountain on the exhaust brake, selecting the next gear down, the exhaust brake was slow to disengage and cut the engine whilst you went through neutral with the stick. No power steering…
You definitley dont need that happening going down mountains for sure gazzer.I am still driving a Daf now for Wyvern Cargo they are a lot different these days.regards Geoff

Dont forget reckless rat,I remember Sam doing a wide load ■■■■■■ for me many years ago.I think Bernie Boniface RIP used to drive for them aswell.
Ha… You couldn’t forget Reckless…I just couldn’t think of his name at the time. Got it now though. Barry Aldridge. RIP. He was somewhat inclined to lose his teeth after a night on the vino. Spent many an hour searching Portugese lorry parks in the dark.
Being young and naive, I was in the BI office in Porto, in walks Aldridge senior and junior.
They both had their trouser pockets cut open in the night, while they were asleep in their cabs.
The running money for fuel and tolls to get back had been stolen by a phantom pocket They told the boss the story with so much conviction, I has actually believed it.
They both got two wads of cash.
Matosinhos and it’s bars had a reputation where drivers could lose hundreds of pounds in one night, with not much in return except a bottle of Champagne that cost a fiver, but sold for a 100 quid.
Most would have known Grant, from up North, with an addictive habit to gaming machines and Bacardi and Coca .
Stevie Holland on R&G ,aka Shady, Tony Bradfield in the Hot to trot Volvo F12.
Alex Hargreaves with his blue Scania 142 for Psl and Brintons carpets Vouzela near Porto.
He had an irate Frenchman have a go at him in Ouistreham, some UK drivers asked the Gendarmarie where he lived, after the road rage incident, they confronted him,as Alex had a Polio arm.

Your not the only one to pass with Harry Oglevy Idid aswell considering he had false legs he done well teaching us.You mention so many people and firms that I too remember most of them characters in their own right.Poor old Gordy whos photo started this little ramble is very poorly. He came out to lunch with me and another 15 old Poole drivers and after a couple of hours jawing and lunch he was knackered. Thanks for the nostalgia regards Geoff
