any one used, the likes of TRUCKSPACE/ LOADUP /HAULAGE EXCHANGE websites , to obtain work for lgv,s
if so, what is your opinion ?
My opinion that I hope who ever uses them likes it when their local customer starts advertising their out going loads on such sites and zb s another job up .
From the point of view of the occasional non-business customer, Shiply is great. Stepson wanted to send an engine away to be rebuilt, he put it on Shiply and a local pallet network member priced the job up and did it. All we had to do was find an old pallet and strap the engine to it. Saved loads of ringing around couriers etc who I know from past experience don’t seem to want one-off ‘retail’ business. Interestingly the engine builder sent the engine back on the same pallet, using the same network.
From the hauliers’ point of view I guess they are just speeding the race to the bottom. You wouldn’t want to get involved in a bidding ‘war’ to ‘win’ work at a price with no profit. So if I were a haulier I’d price the job up, bid that price and stick to it.
The sites are all the same I know some guys who make very good money from Shipley etc. The problem is now things are starting to get silly with pricing and people still think they can make a fortune on them easily which you cant . They don’t just speed the race to the bottom they push it through the bottom an well under ground. And then spreads to other sectors. For example was asked if I could beat 20 quid to move a 3 piece suite 25 miles with a second man you can guess my reply
I saw £100 rate for a full transit van load from Norwich to Edinburgh, not even 30p a mile. Thats crap even for a backload.
It’s supposed to work on the theory that you’re going that way anyway.
