the nodding donkey:
The last time I was paid to drive class two was 25 years ago. And I was paid in guilders. …
So you built the Humber Bridge and stole the English Steel Business?
No, we bought it. You should ask your government about your industry. And utilities. And services. …
No it’s depressing, but will you stop trying to drag this off topic!
The OP is asking if he’s being shafted, and I think the game is for us to guess how!
It doesn’t matter whether he could compare his wages to others using google, he needs to know what we are all on.
It’s important so stop mucking about!

Well, maybe we could start a thread on how much drivers average…
As tachograph said, my employer did pay for my class 2 to which I am very chuffed about.
The problem lies with an agreement to increase my hourly pay rate or put me on fixed salary. Mr employer appears to have forgotten about this and every time it’s brought back up all I’m getting is “we will sort it”

I’d have assumed you’d be on a reduced ‘agreed’ rate for a period to pay back your training, or just be tied in for X amount of time.
I suspect they have something in writing about you agreeing to pay back your training costs if you leave, so don’t you have anything in writing about their commitments to you?
No he didn’t put anything in writing. And I’m running around in this damm truck for the same as our van drivers!
Appreciated he did spend the money training me but he really didn’t have a choice. We had a run starting the day I passed which requires security clearance that I already have. So he had two options get me cat c or do the run himself.
Again that’s slightly off topic, I wanted an idea of average hourly rates for cat c so I have an idea what I need to negotiate for

So you haven’t made an agreement on rates before entering into this verbal arrangement?
I say verbal, as you haven’t said if you’ve agreed to pay back the training?
Nor have you said what Reef asked, where are you in the country?
Basically mate, you’ve asking for help and advice and making it a bit like pulling teeth…
Ah yes, I’m in Derbyshire. It’s a verbal agreement for the pay increase as usually have no reason to doubt the company as there are only 7 of us including the boss.

Well from what you’ve said; why don’t you say to him that unless you get the agreed pay rise (which you should have defined and agreed before), you’ll have to look elsewhere for work as you were counting on the extra money. The ball is then in his court to either chase you for the training, or agree a new rate.
