I’d love to go to a self-tip RDC and would take great delight in telling to eff off.
A fall from a trailer a few years ago left me with a knackered leg and I use a walking stick and have a disabled blue-badge, which I’d wave in front of their face, whilst hobbling about with my walking stick.

Be careful playing that card,H&S may say you are an evacuation liability and ■■■■■■ you of the site.
Tipped 13 pallets at Lidl Bridgend this morning, arrived, signed in, onto a bay and tipped all within 15 mins, unfortunetly it took half hour to check it but overall in and out in an hour no problems whatsoever.
Allied suppliers at South Kirby used to want pallets stripped to a lower height,in the 1950/60’s.All warehouse staff were trained in being arrogant, lazy, workshy.I used to go every Monday first thing with 12 pallets mixed grocery (from Archbolds storage) on way to Slough with damages/returns for Aspro–Matey,Lifeguard,Rennies.,various other soaps etc. After the first 2 or3 visits we dfiscovered the barter system,I sorted out goody parcels,.they would tip and restack my pallets and load empty pallets back(well before CHEP was invented).I was never longer than an hour for 12pallets of mixed, with 100pallets to the good–holiday fund!!!
Had to deliver 8 pallets of garden brooms to Aldi yonks ago, paperwork said “Must be on standard Chep pallets, not more than 1.2m high”. The handles were 1.8m long!!!
I actually refused the job and they sat in the warehouse for 3 weeks, I never did see what happened to them.
You know ive never once done these RDC’s because of the self tip. They get agency to do it, something do with the fact it is classed as heavy machinery or such like the little power truck thing.
So core dont do these drops. I hear the one in livingstone is always crawling with Vosa.

It’s generally big fat over weight drivers who start moaning about it.
Agreed.
Chill deliveries at Morrison Wakefield… they tip the load, if you go inside and help to split it down, you might be there an hour with 26 mixed pallets.
If you don’t, you are condemned to sit and listen for at least two hours to the BFOW drivers’ tales of how they never do any manual work.
Not a hard choice…
Regards,
Nick.
have they changed the system there then ,you used to get tipped on a bay, then pull off, park up and go to sleep, read a book etc and go and get paper work when it was ready[thats if you wernt self tipping],i cant remember anyone having to sit in room waiting for paperwork.i often used to get there see loads of trucks parked opposite bays thinking they were waiting for 1,when you asked them they were waiting for paperwork.

the load you had may of taken 15 mins to tip,but if you get the wrong load you can be at lidl for hours stripping down pallets, restacking broke one etc,im normally at n/aycliffe for 2/3 hrs,i do chill first[loads of palls to strip],then fresh[no stripping],ambient[no stripping to do]
ive no problem over self tipping, thats o.k,what i do object to is then having to strip there pallets down into seperate items,if youve 5/7 different items on a pallet and youve got 26 palls you can be there hours[morr wak esp, they want the lot doing most days ],morr sitt/kett,stock you still have to do it but there fine if you just do 2/3/4 palls. They all will if you allow them try to take ■■■■,they wanted me to not only strip pallet, seperate items, they wanted me to put them into seperate dates[refused],they then tried on another day to try and get me to check it off on there paperwork, again go away.
lidl n/ay-we used to tip/strip/restack,hours in a frezzing chill, then one day they then wanted me to shrink wrap palls as danger to there forkies when putting away[i refused],but told some of our do it .
we have to do it ,if morr want you have to do the lot, company all for it until they get a phone call from collection asking where driver is,they then ring you and ask why your not at coll, because im still here and will be for a few hours.
to be fair though, most of our self tip/strip are done by regular drivers[they like set start times+know where there going each day,]so its very rarely i go to morr/lidl etc these days
to restate, ill tip myself no problem, but ive no intrest in stripping/restacking/shrinkwrapping anyones palls

Please don’t shout at me,but why o why do we drivers stand for this?..On a visit to Alidi in Middleton today I was told I had to tip myself then put the pallets in the bays according to the item grading…THEN he wanted me to strip on the plastic banding !!>…F off springs to mind !!
Don’t you think if we all stuck together these asses would tip the truck for us as it should be?..Can you really see it in Europe?..NO WAY !!!
you are not insured to tip yourself i just tell them if they dont want it just sign my notes and i will take it back and they will be charged for 2 deliveries plus storage

You are insured I checked it out a long time ago you don’t think a big company like Lidls and Aldi would let you do it otherwise.

Why don’t your company or suppliers put a different product on each pallet that would save all the breaking down ?

I very much doubt it works like that. Like it or not it’s more than likely the supplier and probably your employer has signed you up to tip it. I should imagine it’s in the contract with the supplier. I very much doubt a company the size of Lidl or Adli would leave themselves open to such occurrences. And apart from anything else you try and get goods in staff to sign your paperwork in that situation. They wouldn’t and don’t have to.

because i guess if you have 7 different products on 1 pall you just pay for the delivery of that pall,if you put those 7 different products on 7 palls youd pay for 7[im guessing here].

we were told after querying the insurance side of things that our OWN company insurance would pay for any injuries you substained at lidl, morr etc,but until someone has a accident and claims no one really knows for sure
thats not entirely true, one of ours had his FOOT ran over and injured by a ride on electric truck, driver said it was his fault as just come back off holiday ,brain not engaged 100%[words to that effec]t,but if i was told right lad couldnt claim as he had ear phones in at time listening to music

I dont think lidls/aldi staff woud be impressed by your walking stick or blue badge.

If that were the case, then no disabled people would ever be employed.

The Equality Act 2010 says otherwise.
the loading area can be classified as a high risk area and put out of bounds to disabled persons with a view to their own safety legislation does cover for this
