Yes. Provided you have more than one client / customer. Otherwise HMRC will come back to you for a rather large tax bill.
Yes it is only on short term basis if happens be on going ie renews every couple of months or so
In addition to the above you want to be charging at least 25% more than they pay their drivers on PAYE just to break even with the NI and holiday pay situation.

If you mean the same company on a permanent basis then the answer, as far as HMRC and being self employed is concerned, is a definite ‘No’. As has been said, if it is more than one company, and you can negotiate your own rates then that is fine, but the taxman considers that contracting to one company on S/E basis is simply to avoid tax/NI and they do not like that. There are loads of posts on the site discussing this.
