John Killingbeck of Blackburn bought this Seddon Atkinson Strato brand new in January 1991.
Driven from new by driver Doug Brierly it was always known as Doug’s new flyer, note the DNF registration.
It was fitted with a ■■■■■■■ Big Cam 400 HP engine and a Fuller Twin Splitter gearbox in line with a Rockwell axle with 3.7 to 1 ratio.
John ran it for 9 years up to the date of his sale and it ran virtually faultlessly during this period.
John tells me that it carried an additional 80 gallon fuel tank mounted behind the cab and across the chassis.
Notice also the modified Mk II Atkinson bumper bar mounted on the front.

And thanks for the history. I enjoy the history more than the photos on half of these.
One of the most documented vehicles in the Riding fleet was Seddon Atkinson Strato 4x2 tractor unit Reg No F500 BFV Fleet No 24 ‘Invincible’.
Registered new on the 1st of May 1989 at a cost of £30.027.65p + vat this was the first brand new Seddon Atkinson Strato to enter service with the company.
Powered by a ■■■■■■■ L10 325 it was the first one off the production line to be fitted with this size of engine.
Driven from new by Reg Nuttall F500 BFV unfortunately did not live up to it’s name of ‘Invincible’ as it was written off in May 1996 after being burnt out following a fire which started in a front wheel hub.
In 2012 Corgi released a 1:50 scale model based on this particular vehicle with a limited production run of 750.

I had a couple when I was on P&O Gbe out of Poole. …never forget lighting up the brakes coming down from Pamplona with a full load of vino onboard :-o:-o at least I got the high cab
i had to pity the poor victims that had to ship out with the low cab version and also get weekended…I also had a turbo pipe fail climbing up past Rouen heading for the boat, 9off just thru the paege during which time the fitter replaced said pipe.
It was all short lived as I was soon the proud pilot of a lhd magnum…Q proper breakdowns :D:D:D:D:D
Ah the Strato…
