Good Afternoon all,
First post on this forum so apologies if it’s ended up in the wrong section.
I’m an agency driver who at the end of their shift on Friday 14 March 2014 withdrew their digi drivers card from a Siemens unit to be notified of a security breach code 12.
I took a vehicle printout for the days activities which clearly showed all of my activity throughout my working day and also a padlock/card pictogram at the bottom notifying me of a code 12 security breach. Also a driver card pictogram showing time of withdrawl @ 17.49.
I then re entered my drivers card to be told of “last shift card not closed correctly” code 44. I then took a printout from my drivers card which appears to only to show my activity from 11.58 that morning.
I have informed the client of this (who to be honest didn’t seem that interested) and have kept a hold of these printouts in case I require them should I be stopped at the roadside.
I take a great level of care and attention to my tachograph rules and regulations and do not get infringements etc and this is the reason for my email to you today.
If any of you chaps out there have experienced this before or have any information on this ie if my card may have become faulty or the vehicle uv unit may need calibrated I would be most grateful in order for me to remedy my end if required.
Many thanks
Paul Quinn

Sometimes as your card is pushing out if you turn on or off the ignition this will in some cases interrupt the power supply.
I’m in NO WAY stating that’s the cause but it could well be.
Just a note … if you select rest before logging off ie removing the card and also before inserting your card this can prevent other infringements to do with rest periods etc…
Many thanks for the reply Nick,
I usually always leave it on other work at end of shift as some clients as you well know like you to show other work for post op checks.
I also do manual entries to make sure what’s on my time sheet matches what’s on my tacho card, including any poa etc I may have had from starting my shift to inserting my card.
My main concern is either my cards goosed or il pick up an infringement, although if it hasn’t recognised my card for the second half of the shift I should be ok anyway as the vehicle printout I took has all the valid information to keep me legal.

Hi Paul,
That’s no problem mate… I’ve dealt with the duplicates and then I’ve moved your post to where I think it will receive the most views and answers.
Service with a smile.
Happy days already mate, cos it looks like Nick has a possible answer for you.
Thanks Dave…
Just looked at that earlier lol oops…

yeah I understand that. What I meant was just before you take your card out as its been known for some vdu’s to jump manual entries when starting your next shift … then it shows work from the time you removed your card till the time you put it in on your next shift you obviously then put the card in finish your manual enteries from your last shift and start of new one …
Cheers again Nick,
Il certainly take note of that for future reference, it’s not happened to me yet however as you say it’s possible.
Just a quick one, the clients card reader wasn’t available so I couldn’t download my card at the end of the shift, so I guess the card if working correctly would hold all of the information for that day, thus eliminating any infringements?
And would I be right in saying this error may have occurred during the transfer of information from my card to the vu unit?
I wasn’t aware that the information collated during the shift was only transferred to the head unit at the end of your shift, for some reason I thought it was recorded as you went?

I don’t know which way it goes , prob from head to card I just think of the Head unit as a woman …It does what it wants as and when it wants too
Hi
I have had this happen to me twice now do I need a new card? I’ve been driving only 2 years but I’ve not had it happen until I got a new card due to change of address. Now it’s happened twice in 2 weeks. Or is it the truck? I always use the same unit.
Thanks
