but hey ho, I don’t have to worry about it until my insurance needs renewing next October!
You…
Really think it’ll be that simple?
You will now have to declare the accident to all employers prospective or present.
Your name will go on the insurance database.
If there’s the slightest chance of you having to lose cash over this, the insurance companies will make sure you do.
As all good truck drivers know, it’s mirror, dumbass manoeuvre, signal and giggle as you got one over the other guy.
I’m not a truck driver but will have to declare the accident to the brewery I work for on weekends (van driving) once it is all settled.

There is nothing really wrong in the manoeuvre you chose to undertake. There is no law that says you cannot overtake stationary traffic waiting at a red light … otherwise multi-lane approaches wouldn’t work. It seems you simply omitted to check your blind spot, as so many do. We all make mistakes.
Really! And what happens when you pull out onto the wrong side of the road and a vehicle suddenly comes out of Rhondda Road right in front of you?
I could see clearly into the junction.
That’s fair enough but these types of situations can lead to all sorts of problems because of impatience.
Hope it all works out OK for you.

I had already checked what he could see: Google Maps
On the other hand, the 3rd party definitely couldn’t see if there was anything coming down Rhondda Road.
You might have seen down Rhondda Road, but you didn’t see the car behind you until you pulled out and hit it?
In all honesty, from my point of view, you were at fault. So there’s no wonder he’s put a claim in to his insurance company for the damage.
He crashed into me, scraping my right door, as opposed to me pulling out and hitting him.
What is the difference between this incident and the case below?
Challoner vs. Williams and Croney
The driver of Vehicle A saw that the two vehicles behind it were not conducting any maneouvres, so he/she signalled to turn right and attempted to do so. Vehicle B overtook the two vehicles behind Vehicle A and hit Vehicle A in the offside (right-hand side).
Who’s at fault?
Vehicle B is 100% liable.
On appeal, Vehicle A was found to have done nothing wrong as he had checked the position of the two vehicles behind. (For this reason, if the driver directly behind had started to overtake then it would have been settled 50/50.) Vehicle B should have ensured it was safe to overtake.

Then you…
Have nothing to worry about.
