As an ardent follower of this thread over many years imagine my surprise on finding that I have exactly 16,761 unread posts to read.
I may be some time.
Nice Photo.1963 S 20 , My first wagon was the same but 8 wheel Tipper.,Regards Larry.
Just the sort of load I used to like for my backload. I’m guessing those bags were loaded with a fork truck and nice and compact and easy to rope and sheet. Probably a better rate than steel, another favourite, too.
It would be a nightmare trying to handball them on
Indeed it would, but in my time I have been subjected to some very heavy (illegally heavy nowadays) bags of stuff dropping off a conveyor onto my shoulders, which would have caused severe back injury without the right balance.
These, however, appear to me to perhaps have handles on the top for forks to go through. Does anyone know what they are?
I have a vague memory in my head (most of them are vague these days ) of large bags of fertilizer from ICI through Bobby Durham’s transport which might have looked like these. They weren’t of the handball, variety though, otherwise I wouldn’t have rung Bobby more than once.
That’s funny, I wrote another para in an edit to the above post, pressed save edit, and it disappeared. Is this another quirk of this wonderful new platform of ours?
Anyway, this was it:

Yet another edit, just to remove a stray comma this time, has also disappeared.
