Dead right there “H”,I always said that you spent 12/14 hours in the bleeding cab without dossing in it as well!! Digs here we come every time!! Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
Ah but we were proper drivers Dennis I liked the passenger seat free of “rubbish” and kept available for “cab traffic” like I’ve said before a proper driver has the same motto as members of the scout movement “be prepared”.
thanks harry long retired

I have a distinct feeling that this thread is taking a serious turn for the “worst” and thats all I am prepared to say for now! I can get in enough lumber on here without encouraging a former “king of the road” to divulge a “little” of his murky past down the road!! Anon II

You would need a five gallon drum of jeyes fluid to swab the seat if you picked some of them up these days Harry.
Cheers Dave.

Hello again,Dave,I heard that the fella who drove the M.A.N had been in a nasty accident also,I’m trying to remember the lorry he ran before the M.A.N…Oh well it’ll come :unamused: .
The first pic is not me being careless with the scissors,it was the bottom of the page…honest.

Cheers Bubbs,

hiya,
Nice try Marc but Tippex altered pics unacceptable, trying underhand tactics now Dennis, bad losers.
thanks harry long retired.

We’er home and dry “H” as far as the Big J 8LXB fiasco!!! That Big J has an American built ■■■■■■■ 335 engine(Trev H will confirm!) But I must say I have a bit fancy for that Big J steer tractor on an earlier post,I wonder what spec it was? discounting the fact that it didn’t have an 8LXB engine!! Cheers hic! hic! Dennis.

Didn’t the big ■■■■■■■ (290) Big J’s have the exhaust stack on the driver’s side -
- and the Rolls powered ones on the passenger side?

hiya,
Which brings me to another old long distance driver saying which goes something like, once a king always a king but once a knight is enough.
thanks harry long retired

Your dead right there “Mole Power”,if there was a prize for the most “ugly” combination ever put to-gether that Foden and tipping trailer would win the “supreme championship”!!! Or as that Louisiana Sheriff said in the James Bond film “Boy,you is ugly”!!! Cheers Bewick.

Thats all well and good saying “ugly” but how many drivers were sleeping across the seats in the late70s/early 80s ?

Does anyone know who’s the red bonneted Merc was? Looks like it could be one of Larrow Transport (Northern) Ltd. to me which was the last firm that Davies Bros from the Highway in the east end of London ran! Could be wrong though as the TA stickers are throwing me!! One thing though, the outfit would probably be over length as it looks to be coupled to a 40ft York SL widespread!!! Won’t comment on the roping and sheeting!! Cheers Bewick.

Dennis did you clock the Perfects ex Bradys DAF 2800
Steve.

Well spotted Steve!! No I didn’t,but that would be one of Brady’s first DAF’s I should think! "you know who " could probably tell us for definite, anyway how’s the auld lad doing? is he enjoying his retirement? Cheers Dennis.

Love the John Dee pic, when I worked there it was called John Dee ltd. The John Dee group had just gone pop, started back up again with the same wagons but not as many. Turners of Soham had a lot of them. We had F reg Wendy’s at Coundon and there was a couple based in Magnet’s at Darlington. About 10 or so at Rotherham on the Beer contract for Courage.

Hi Dennis
He’s doing well thanks, he’s not missing driving one bit,
Steve.
