This thread gets better & better every day keep them coming Bubbs & Paul + everyone else who contributes. I can hear them engines pounding away as they come up Stanedge all with a sound of their own
Whether the bloke chose the old Scammell for the gate change and raucous noise, or whether he chose the easy life with a tanker against roping and sheeting the lorries following him

Hi again,Well done to Paul for the location of Kaye Goodfellows Foden…good pic, only one headlight too ,definately agree with Jamie about the Scammell.
Unless BOC Chemicals had their own transport I think the Atki is either S and R or Harold Wood with the West Riding reg and the AEC MK3 at the back is probably the same.I’m trying to think who the tipper with greedy boards belongs to,the logo on the door is familiar…
Great photo.

Chris…under the magnifying glass…Peter Slater
Cheers Bubbs,
Of course Bubbs,Peter Slater, how could I forget, nice to see one stood still So I think maybe the tankers are Bulk Liquid Transport Ltd which was part of the Peter Slater Group IIRC.

I think this one might be ex Marley Tiles?
My Uncle has 894MKL which was ex Marley & is, outwardley at least, of a very similar spec.
Greetings All. At a guess the old Scammell looks like it had a Gardner engine.I drove one but luckily it had a Leyland 0.680 and it went quite well. Regards to you all,900x20.

It looks like a West Riding “WT” reg on that Scammell,I wonder who the operator was? The photo makes you feel as though you are stood watching that endless procession of wagons out of Lancs into Yorks and beyond…you didn’t need a fast shutter speed for her. What a great picture.
Ee them were t’days tha knows…

Registration is PWT 786 - Fleet No. 140. There is an H logo with flames on the cab front and a telephone number of 3184 - 5. Just cannot make out the owners name. Could it be Hargreaves?
Have just checked viewing some Hargreaves Motors images by Roger. Yes, it is Hargreaves.

Andrew
And with the Big A absent, a la Marley
You know I hadn’t even noticed that until you mentioned it! I have seen photos of other Marley Atkinsons without their ‘Big A’ fitted.
I’m off to Devon this weekend so will try to get some photos of the restoration in progress.

What a coincidence, there’s a feature on the Atki’s of Marley and the reason for the absence of the big A in this months edition of Classic and Vintage Commercials.
Apparently according to some old sages who know about the beginnings of Marley, it was founded .by a family by the name of Aisher in the early '20’s.
According to one,the A was removed so as not to give the impression that it was an over the top boast about the founders name when the firm changed hands over the years.
where are these “crappy” cuttings then ? we all like to see whatever you have saved for us marcus long may you reign. i have not seen any crap on here so far - keep it up !!!
