Hello harry, yes Ive lots of pictures, but sadly have none of the equipment, (or expertise), to put them on this site!! Looking at every bodies contributions I realise what a time warp I am living in!! My apologies, we tried to make them good lookers, (as well as drivers), one that we built on of all things a VW LT35, 6cyl diesel. She ended up with some one who either built farm buildings, or made the sheeting for them, somewhere up in Dennis`s neck of the woods, (■■■■■■■■■ as a mobile exhibition unit, complete with a cab top sleeper! Incidentally its up there where my cousin and her husband do “rare breeds”, just outside Kirby Lonsdale. I sent some BV202E Snow Cats up there as well, (that tight turn in Alston, on an icy road can catch you out , particularly if you are driving an ex Blue Circle Roadtrain Rolls 220, kING GTL30, with only a 4ton Snow Cat on the back! I promise that I will try to get the equipment, (and expertise), to show my photographs on here, (at least before Marcus gets to 400 pages)! they are not all mundane, I promise. thanks for your interest ,Cheerio for now.

Hello all, can we please get rid of those Land Rovers, they are b… awfull vehicles, and if the truth is really known, due to stupid jingoistic hysteria the real reason that the marriage of Leyland and Bedford was blocked, resulting in the “gift” of Leyland to DAF, and the eventual end of lorry production in GB. Oh, and if some idiotic Land Rover enthusiast really wants to know what a “true on off road” 21st century 4x4 should be, try a Jeep!!! (and save yourself £8000), Lets get back to "proper "lorries, or shall I throw in the G Waggon, Esarco, et al. Cheerio for now,

hiya,
Thanks anyway Saviem, I too am unable to post pics don’t have the gear or the expertise and have never used a camera so no pics either, feel a bit of a fraud looking at other peoples stuff and not being able do anything in return, Iv’e been shown how to do it but at my age can’t grasp all the press this press that jargon my daughter say’s I’m the orignal “two short planks” and shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a computer, and I am inclined to think she’s spot on.

Spoken like a true Gentleman and “Scholar” “Saviem”,if ever there was a more overated vehicle the honours must surely be awarded to the ubiquitous “Land Rover”(and the Range Rover). They were and have continued to be the most obnoxious 4x4 on the market but apparently they are some sort of “statement” motor for the “country set” OK Ya!! Pencil necked in-breds !!! Cheers Dennis.

hiya,
Dennis just pleased somebody’s spoken up, horrible things when launched and have never improved.
wouldn’t be gifted one, how anybody can use one of the things as a private motor defies logic and
when there are much cheaper so-called go-anywhere vehicles on the market, how they sell the things
beats me, Lada had a four wheel drive on the market years ago I saw a report of a comparison over
off-road conditions and Land Rover was beaten hands down by the Lada thingy’s and just about
everything else taking part. Tin hat on.

I know its a bit OT but if anyone has any old Landrover photos I would love to see them.

What about my old faithful landy, long gone what apity, l would love to have it back crowbar.

Hello all, here I sit, with it has to be said a “more than generous goblet” of the favourite Bollinger, in rather soiled attire, (the slurry pump failed in a most spectacular way today, and the residue seems to be clinging to me in a most “intimate” manner, not helped by the efficient output of the offices LPG heating system! No doubt you remember the Land Rovers famous defect, “water ingress”, they leaked like the performance of no power shower could ever achieve! Rot, it gave new meaning to the word, they rotted as they were built!! At least poor mis-aligned Tony Gilroy, (Land Rovers 80s MD), managed to bring “in house”, the production of body panels, but even then they could not put them together properly!! Range Rover, in 72, due to some success I ended up owning a 2door example, what a b… overated heap. In 82, spending , (and I am ashamed to admit this), I spent money earned honestly in France, on a Wood and Pickett 6x4 Brown Range Rover. I must have been well, insane!! It drove like no Henry Boys converted FF100 BMC, in fact probably worse!! Then in 88, a “new” Range Rover VM diesel. She in a fit of pique, threw her mediteranean assembled timing gears out through the front of her power plant at 120miles, right on the junction M6,M62. But I made good of a bad job!! I fitted a marine 2.4litre BMW 6cylinder diesel, job done by a very good outfit down in Andover, made an incredibly lovely car, (apart from the Land Rover bits that kept, with monitemous regularity failing). Sold her about 91, and since then have, (sensibly), never gone near any of their products!! Some of my friends have, and regretted it!! If you want to off road, buy a 2CV Citroen, or a Suzuki, NOT, oh please not a lardy arsed old Land Rover, Quality on a budget, a G Wagon, Gentlemen, my apologies lets get back to lorries, not “fairy boys” toys. The odour is getting stronger, I am into the shower, and after `72 Grande Cru, the day has been , well not so bad, adieu mes braves, Cheerio for now.

Never mind Land Rovers, what’s happened to Range Rovers in the last 25 years? They’ve gone ginger beer since then with low ride and bodykit versions, alloy wheels and other expensive optional gayness :open_mouth: And don’t start me on that Evoque piece of excrement…why did someone weld a Mini Countryman roof to a Range Rover bodyshell? Reminds me of this monstrosity;

If you want to off road, buy a 2CV Citroen,

I won’t get into the Land Rover/Range Rover debate never having been able to afford or really want an off road vehicle but, you’re right on the money with that above quote.

There is a hilarious Citroen ad running on French TV these days featuring a nun driving a 2 CV across country.
She ducks as she takes the roof off under one of those bars designed to make cyclists dismount, swerves onto a public road where she is T-boned by another Citroen which cuts her car in half and spins her round. Nothing daunted she accelerates away with the front wheel drive pulling the front end of the car along the road, laughing all the way.

No, they’re not still selling them, there are enough people making a lot of money with 2CVs these days, merely making the point of how good Citroens still are, and I agree with them.

I have had 2 2CV daughters, an AX and a Saxo (still got that, going strong and sailing through every test at 13) and they are brilliant. We once decided to visit a friend in another hamlet 2kms away. On the local map I noticed a direct track through the forest and we thought it would be a nice drive. :unamused:

Pretty soon we were up to the sump in mud, the wheels going nowhere in deep soft ruts. There were no trees immediately to the left so, with full left hand lock, I put it into 2nd and gently eased in the clutch, keeping the revs just above stall point and it slowly but surely pulled it self up across the ruts and onto the firmer ground alongside.

The Berlingo is different in that respect, the longer wheel base and heavier body takes the weight further back away from the drive, but a very good motor nonetheless for the longer journeys.

Sir Anthony Bamford (JCB) wanted to buy Land-Rover in the eighties, but ‘she of the iron handbag’ (or at least one of her minions) put the blockers on it. I believe it was becuase LR was one of the few vaguely profitable bits of the wider Rover edifice & it was needed a ‘sweetener’ to any potential suiters for the whole - I think this was around the the time that Honda were on the scene.

However I whole heartedly agree lets not taint Marcus’s superb thread with any more of this Solihull tat.

Andrew

Saviem,
So sorry to hear of your bad experiences with the LR brand.
I must admit, they’ve gone a good way off what they used to be.
For a recreational vehicle and definitely not a purists dream,I have gone back to basics and have part owned with my son a 1970 Series 2A which I have rebuilt over the years to be the Land Rover that I want.
A ground up rebuild now sports a galvanised chassis and rebuilt galvanised bulkhead.
A rebuilt 2.4 Volkswagon diesel engine liberated from an LT 35 truck.
A Fairey overdrive, and 3.5 Disco diffs to up the gearing,
Defender doors,so now the rain can’t get in and the cat can’t get out.
A mixture of VW and Volvo electrics,Golf 2 speed heater,etc.etc.
The drivers of the so called “Chelsea tractors” may laugh, but at 40mpg an still with impressive off road performance, laugh on fellas.
My last job when the weather improves is to spray the vehicle panels all the same colour.
