Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

bubbleman:
When I was a kid instead of investing my hard scrounged pocket money on “Spank monthly” I would cough up 2 bob for a copy of “Commercial Motor” or a "Motor Transport " .As they piled up in the corner of my bedroom my mum decided it would be a good idea to chuck them away, after the threat to leave home didn’t work a compromise was to cut out the bestist bits and create a scrapbook, the result of this was 1000’s of cuttings that ended up in a box. here are a few of them ,they may be of interest to someone. Marc

Hope you like them

Cracking Atki shots, thank you!

Here’s a sister motor from the Silver Knight fleet:

I still have the original factory build cards for them… (tucked up my anorak sleeve!)

Thanks to everyone who asked for more, had 10 minutes so here are some

Hope they are of interest, Marc

Some real gems here. Thanks for taking the time to post them. As a kid, most of my clippings got pasted to my bedroom wall. Oh how I wish i’d put them in a scrapbook instead. Like the fact that you’ve got the text to go with the picture, as it makes them even more interesting. Did’nt realise that Bussings were imported into the UK.

I know that Cantrell pic is going to excite a certain member on here

I missed a lot of those, my pocket money was wasted on the Headlight magazine and studying the return load section

Some brilliant memories though.

Excellent clippings there fella. :sunglasses:

I don’t suppose you may have any tippers amongst your odds and ends ?

Sincerely hope so !

Just got in from work (3.00am :open_mouth: ) but thought I’d have a quick look before bedi -byes so seeing Bonkey is about here are a few tippers.

I love the last pic,is this Leyland ex G.L.Bakers?

Goodnight Marc.

Rob Campbell:
Marc This is great stuff brings back so many memories keep going Please.

Second that, I reckon that WhiteTrux 89 is the one I had in '83, the number is very familiar but the only picture I have to hand at the moment has my lady standing in front of it. :unamused:
However it wasn’t still silver in '83 although I seem to remember another one was.

Wonderful pics; doesn’t that Bussing look incredibly modern for 1971, wouldn’t be too out of place in a yard even today.

Great thread mate, keep em coming please.

this guy was an ex demonstrator from guy motors, as a few of the older members will notice it has a wolverhampton registration. my grandfather bought this from guy motors when it was 6 months old. as a kid it was my job on a saturday morning to clean all the crud out of the tipper for the pricely sum of 5 bob. thanks for the pic, it has bought back many memries, not all of them good

I think WD reg Big J is a Warwickshire reg not Wolverhampton the NX on the Leyland Badger is a Coventry reg.

i used to have a book telling you all the towns and letters many years ago, i just tried searching the web but all i came up with was loads of private reg plates for sale. you might be right with warks for WD, its definately from that area, but remember conty boundaries have changed a lot since then

here you go yella - for bikes but all the same motorcycle.co.uk/registration_letter.html :sunglasses:

ah thanks jj, as i thought, dudley was the nearest taxation office to wolverhampton .

Hi, when that Big J was new WD & NX were both Warwickshire Registrations.

Here’s a pic of a tipper with some old cow !!
[/img]

yes, if you look on the link posted above, it was registered in dudley, which, in those days probably came under warks

Hi Yella, no at that time Dudley was FD & DH plates, and Dudley was in Worcestershire.
Regards Richard
