They were based at the top of the hill from Ramsbottom,there was a cafe in the gateway,he had a very old fire engine in the yard very rare too ,i think he ran some Atkis too and i also remember him buying some brand new Dennis 4 wheelers with the square cabs and 180 Gardners the fleet was always well turned out

the cafe is still where you remember and so is the yard but i dont think they are into haulage anymore they rent out trailers , they are good friends of my bosses and the chap was good enough to let me look at what was in his shed . i hope i havnt offended him by posting them on here .

i had a whale of a time having a look around .

Great stuff lads, It brings old mems back when I used to load back from Knowles Transport Ramsbottom in the 50/60s era, One of his drivers went to work for Hinchcliife at Walmsley, he was a big tall fellow sunburnt a bit hands like shovels, when he worked for Bill Knowles my gaffer used to load him back from Newcastle with Danish Bacon, usualy for Blackburn, firms like Tattersalls, Ayton Hunter, Arkwrights, & Collins Provisions, probabley long gone now, Happy Days, Larry

Hy Bumper, was Martin Cook from Stocksfield another brother ?, I remember him getting an 8 Wheeler ERF, E Reg which was blue, Seppies colours, he was said to have cancelled it, The driver for Martin Cook was Big Fred ?, I loaded with him a few times at the ROF, at Birley, Regards Larry

I think 1 of the grandsons runs a 105 xf Daf,i remember my dad buying a Volvo 244 DL s reg from them i drove it back to Bradford he had it a while but the engine was dodgy i think they had been putting the wrong oil in it

Spam = spiced ham Larry,and the two best places for a fried spam sandwich was the Moat Lane Cafe on the A57 west of Cadishead and the Woodside on the A614 between Rawcliffe and Goole.

Septimius’s son Bob Cook worked for Dowmac at Eaglescliffe for years,but ended up driving for G Johnson at Barton,Vic.

Plenty of snap over here Dennis,mind you things could be a bit bleak by tomorrow night as she’s not sailed again today,still sat in t’harbour now,and the airport is closed,bloody hell,the UK is cut off from t’IOM.We’ve got local meat,fish, bread,eggs,veg,beer and plenty of newspaper if t’bog rolls run out.

Turkey same as you,but will be in Edinburgh Xmas Day,go every year,that’s if the bloody wind drops and the airport is operating. :laughing:

The other man on the right in the photo is Siddle C .The first photo is a lorry belonging to Thomas Cook their father, not Septimius,but him and Siddle are on the photo.

IIRC, i was told Bob Smith used to work there, years before he started out on his own at Langley Park!.

Ray cook Siddles son went into caravans(Elddis) at Langley Park,Siddle was also involved in this,

Charlie never had all Scania’s, and they weren’t all British registered either. Here’s a few from the 17 based in Rotterdam.
