Great picture, we used to have one of these deliver coal to our primary school, it quite amazed me that they could pump coal through a pipe when I was 5, it amazed me even more when I started work and my job was to build these things with rotary valves and Peabody Holmes blowers.

Have any of the Goole or Hull massive got any images of Jos. Richardson & Sons Ltd

250 years of interesting history about GKN from its birth in the valleys through to it’s Brambles and Chep ownership.

Getrag, Hardy Spicer, Spitfire, Steel, Sankey and almost all the new British cars were fitted with GKN wheels, your grannies shelves were held up with Nettlefold screws and nails :stuck_out_tongue:

A load of bagged grain on this 1945 AEC Mammoth Major of David West Dunfermline. These sacks were 2cwt a time.

I remember the 2,25 cwt sacks OIltreader, thankfully they stopped not long after I began working in a feed mill between plant jobs, you had to get your back under them just right the first time didn’t you. Lovely photos, thanks for sharing them.

BB

Aye , those sacks were ■■■■ heavy and awkward to carry. The warehouseman at our feedstore saw me struggling with them and offered me advice . ( I was only 18 at the time . ). He advised me to head into town that weekend and choose an
18 to 20 stone lass for the weekends fun . He said that by the time Id manhandled her for a few nights , then the sacks wouldnt seem too heavy afterwards ! ! And sacks dont drink either , so I was told !
Cheers, cattle wagon man.

Lol, I like the thought of that Cattlewagon man, I’ve still got my hook in the shed but I don’t know how any young heifers I got tangled up with would react to them in her rump rofl.

Hi gritterman, This model will give you an idea, from what I can gather, NCB lorries were black with white lettering, later they became predominantly yellow with black lettering, the Albion would be black on yellew I guess.
