Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

TIDDERSON:
Can’t tell you much about these!!

M.G.Wines steam truck, looks like the picture was taken at the Great Dorset Steam Fair which is on at the end of this month Aug 2013

The Millbrook Wrecker, ERF and Diamond T ■■ and Merc were possibly in Ray Avery’s Yard near Southampton!

Millbrook is an area in Southampton.

The ERF looks very much to be in local haulier and vintage truck enthusiast Danny Dovey’s colours

Regards Pat

A reply I made on Bubbleman’s Scrapbook thread

I do not think Dennis bought his first artic until 1970/1 , - a Leyland Mastiff .
No doubt the man in question will put us all right .

It certainly looks very quiet on the M 6 for a Bank Holiday period.
Am I correct in believing that the M 6 as shown , ( May 1968 ), was then only 2 lanes in each direction ?

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Some more odds and ends

Where that train is look’s like north of Garstang just before Scorton Church. On Google Maps the space between the railway and the motorway is trees all the way along now. The railway is electrified as well so a totally different view. The motorway was concrete in that section originally but that has all gone too.

Another of Gt.Yarmouth’s Haven bridge taken from the top of the town hall, traffic moving freely on this one.

Thank you for these really great pictures showing an era of all modes of transport, seeming to work harmoniously. Interesting to see the steam loco (wouldn’t 1968 be a bit late for this engine?) running empty - no lesss co trains then, and I don’t see a stobie on the micky six either!

Hello hayday.
I would think the G.Yarmouth one would be late 50’s as there is a Vauxhall Victor lower right, introduced 1957,the M6 is the correct date with steam in its last throws and as “truckfing” mentions you probably can’t see the motorway now for the wires and trees from that position. The one “haddy” has put on of Yarmouth is interesting as it looks as if the railway has finished and soon to be obliterated.I suppose it is progress or are we kidding ourselves. Mike.

The M6 between north of Preston and Lancaster has always been three lanes unlike the original M6 Preston by-pass below.
The picture above was taken during the removal of the original notorious concrete surface you can see the southbound carriageway has been replaced.
When it was laid in 1965, concrete was considered the way forward but by 1986 it had been ripped up.
