My first memories of South Wales in the 70’s was when we would run down early doors from Leeds, every housing estate we passed would have a pall of blue smoke hanging over it as the local Illtyd Thomas driver fired his truck up.

i wouldn’t want a gardner like that john . when i was driving to work in a morning and there was a pall of smoke over the yard , i knew someone had got there early and fired the motors up ! mind you , we needed a white stick to find which one was ours in the smog , cheers , dave
Do you think these drivers had been given work place training?
lovely lorry that foden of yours larry , i reckon they were a better cab than the s21 that followed . did it have a manual or air auxiliary change ? cheers , dave

It was originally a two stick when it was new to Wm. Hampton, but we converted it to air, which was much better to use. This one had the fibreglass daylight cab roof, they were a good strong built cab, it was a nice old wagon to drive. new in 1962. Regards Larry

Nice to see one of Ron Osborne’s motors (father of Pete for anyone who didn’t know) - I used to sub Spanish work to him, firstly on the strength that they ran left hookers, just a sign of a firm serious about the job IMO, although Ron was a wee bit of a rough diamond along with Brian Else who ran the transport. The cockney John Earl was a proper dodgy geezer though
pete osborne is the younger brother to ron , not his son ron is always being taken for older than he is as for ron .Dell boy would be more like it
Wheel Nut:
No, they just turned the Scammells around hooked up & went back up the bank .This type of trailer could be pulled either way, amazing ? Regards Larry.
A few pics from the 1948 Commercial Motor Show at Earls Court.
