Do you know who owned the Marathon with the scrap metal trailer? And is that a council truck thats rolled over. Looks like Lowestoft’s north beach. Cheers Haddy.

Don’t know anything about the Marathon, just assumed with all the mesh around the windows it’d be during the miners strike.

TK Bedford of Waveney District Council that rolled onto Lowestoft beach. I was the ‘Saturday boy’ at Gales Garage at the time. Driver kept it spotless & polished it regularly.

One more question Norfolktrucker, is that last picture Jock Stoddart’s old yard in Trinity Rd ?
Seeing the Eastern Coach works picture brings back a few memories, occasionally I took timber there from Cardiff docks. I think it was ash they used for the framework when building the busses and coaches. Then, when the factory shut around 1987 we took all the equipment up to Workington, some of the loads were rough. Seeing the place empty was a sad sight. Cheers Haddy.

Haddy, if it’s not Jock’s old yard it’s got to be somewhere close. Definitely in that area.

Re: the red Marathon.
I think it would have been on either the iron ore or coal convoy from Port Talbot to Llanwern during Arthur’s disagreement with Maggie. It looks like it’s pulling a Rothdean trailer which was probably hired for the duration of hostilities. If I was a gambling man I would say that the photo was taken at the Magor roundabout, just prior to entering the Llanwern works.

The F86 in the pic - is it a P&O Roadways motor (the pale blue looks the same as Pandoro) or Harradine maybe?
