Ah but look at his motor Dennis; Half cab, made of plastic…
He’ll make a good tipper driver, first attempt at tipping the wagon it fell over…

hiya,
Looking at his top I bet he’d rather have been a steam loco driver,
a lot better pay and no depot closures, I know I would, nearest I got
was dragging dead ones about on the back of a low loader.
thanks harry, long retired.

Hi Marc,
Great pics.my old man drove flatbeds on animal feeds for forty years similar to French’s Sed/Atk.Hard work.
Cheers Dave.
Hi Bubbs that Norco tanker was from Birkenhead and evolved into P.L.transtore when I was on Sykes we did work for them and ran with their lads quite often and the very good transport manager was female which was unusual in the 70s and please just keep the pics coming

Agree with you there Marcus, some shot that one of Robsons workshop, not a Foden in site so it probably was shot in the late '70’s or early 80’s around the time of their takeover by UG.Keep 'em coming Marcus, you do find the “diamonds” mate !!! Cheers Dennis.

There wouldn’t be Dennis, the Foden’s would be out earning money! And yet another Tilcon tipper photo, taken for Foden’s sales brochure I guess as it hadn’t been properly commissioned by the look of it, no fleet number or sheet.
Pete.
Lawrence Dunbar:
0This Foden was brand new to Corbets from Weardale who were taken over by Golightleys, It was 24T, grossmbut was actually plated to run at 26T, But it was to short a wheelbase when this extra weight was introduced, So it had the chassis lengthened so as it could run at 28T, which gave it a 19T payload wich was good & cheaper to tax than a 30Tonner with a payload of 19 to 20 T., regards Larry.
Tidy looking motor you had there Larry ! Did it have a 150 or a180 engine? Cheers Dennis.
It had a 180 in Dennis, It belonged to my cousin, who I bought my first Foden off, This ended up at Perth, A friend of ours Brian Patterson & he changed the cab over to an S 80 & put PAS, Onto it also, Regards Larry.

Golightly Group rings a bell Larry, did they run in a blue livery, tippers? If so I once got a lift in one of their Atki Borderers, maybe on a “L” plate,it had the 240 in it and the driver was well pleased.
Hi Marc,
Just shows how times have changed. The Foden eight legger of Tilcon could carry 20.5 ton at 30 ton gross.Nowadays they are struggling to get 20 ton on a 32 ton eight legger.
Cheers Dave.

The old one’s didn’t have a ton of bling on them Dave so they could carry more.
