Well done to Marcus for passing the 700,000 mark. Let’s all push his Scrapbook Memories thread onwards to 8000,000 and beyond.
Here’s my contribution for today. These were taken by that great photographer, writer and historian Arthur Ingram and date from the 1960s. They have been scanned from negatives in the Ingram/Roundoak archive. I have all the dates and locations and will add these later.

Would that have been a load out of Covent Garden do you reckon “H”,it looks a bit like one! What length of trailer would it have been ? a bit short arsed but then the artics were only 24 tonners in them day’s I suppose. And it looks like it could be a “cockney” shunter at the wheel as no self respecting Blackburn driver would wear a white shirt and braces surely !!! Unless it really was you at wheel “H” and your keeping “stumm” !! Cheers Dennis
Nice one Marc.Tilcon used to own the Gore quarry the other side of the valley from here.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Seem to remember those trailers being referred to as eight metre
jobs and you’re right Dennis the driver would be one of the London
shunters who’s name I can’t remember but he worked there forever
the load most likely was destined for overnight trunk to the Lancs
fruit and veg markets, O’h how I hated Covent Garden.
thanks harry, long retired.

hiya,
Yes Vic Bowker did always refer to trailer length in metric possibly
because they had so many continental connections even in the 60s.

The tipper body, looks like A Thynne design from Bolton wich if my mems serverves me right was patr of the Tipping Gear firm Edbro■■? Regards Larry, This Dodge has a similar desing tipper bodey.
Yes Laurence, they were Thynne bodies and a right load of rubbish ours were as well! That ‘open’ type wasnt too bad, but the insulated ones cracked everywhere after only a couple of years mostly due to the heat I imagine. I think that it was only the pop rivetted panels that stopped them falling apart, having said that other makes didnt fare much better until we went onto Cravens Tasker and they stood up quite well considering the battering they got from either asphalt or foundry stone. The trucks that were kept only on dry stone fared better, I think the extreme temperature of the later asphalts caused the floors and sides to buckle on the coated trucks and it wasnt long before the crossmembers started poking through.
Pete.
