Scomo + Eskside Transport Ltd Musselburgh & Broxburn

I have published Web Pages to celebrate and remember the Transport Companies Rob Moffat
and Alex Peat owned and operated from 1970 until Rob retired in 1984.
As there is increased interest in Transport to the Middle East during the 1970s & 1980s.

This is very interesting web site about an old Scottish transport company
and its history in Tankers, General, Middle East and Europe. Great Stuff.

I have had a look on the Astran Facebook page and on Astran Trucknetuk thread.

I would be interested to know why the interest in transport to the Middle East over 40 years ago.

Can anyone enlighten me why this is ■■?

This is a pic of ex Eskside LHD truck or you could say the easy life after Middle East.

This Pic was out at Continental Freeze Broxburn One of Mike Sloan’s companies at his cold storage warehouse.
Eskside also had a Garage and yard out there at Greendykes Estate Broxburn.

I have just read a post on Scottish Middle East Hauliers !
That Geordie Scott (who I lost touch with along with other drivers and friends
from away back) is still going strong and has been retired for 2 years now and living in the Scottish Borders.

Now we are gradually getting over winter and the bad weather snow and ice.

Is it not about time to save accidents and hold ups that UK hauliers started using snow chains when necessary ?

For instance in my opinion this accident would not have happened if this truck in the pic had the option of snow chains.

I have witnessed a good few accidents in Turkey in snowy conditions that could have been prevented
if the drivers had taken time to fit their chains.

The UK has went along with the EU on Tacho’s, Drivers Hours, CPC’s and Speed Limiters. Which EU countries don’t control the same as the UK.

There is only one way that all traffic can keep on the move in severe winter conditions (Snow and Ice) in the UK.

That is to implement a law in the UK which european countries have in place and that is to make it compulsory to carry and use snow chains when road conditions such as snow and ice dictate the need.

Also, make Winter Tyres compulsory on all vehicles, Germany has recently made it compulsory.

If there was a law in place regarding snow chains. All vehicles would be able to keep on the move in snow and there would be fewer delays.

I have been following a thread Old Edinburgh Hauliers where this company has been mentioned
and a few pics of there trucks have been posted.

I remember seeing this Eskside Transcon on Middle East & Europe work pulling Fridges.

Yes you would Stubo as our yard was next to the car park
at the rear of the Brunton Hall. Which we shared with
Rob Moffat Fish Transport and Processor & Part Owner
of Scomo + Eskside Ltd.

However as the fleet expanded Scomo formed Eskside Ltd
in 1974 to run to the Middle East and Europe and we moved
out to Greendykes Industrial Estate Broxburn.

Here is another Unit & Tilt our first left ■■■■■■ in the car park
you mentioned just needing sign written.

Here is a link to a few web pages to commemorate the hard work
by the Owners, Drivers and Other Staff, some who have now passed on R.I.P.

Great website Scotnat. Always interesting posts. Must get up into the borders on the motorbike next Summer and see if I can find Geordie and his brother Bill. Great memories down all the years.
