memorying on morning ferry
bma, congratulations, that drawing encapsulates totally how we all probably felt as small boys!! It is superb, remember, you can take the man out of the lorry, but never ever take the lorry out of the man!!! Thank you, Cheerio for now.
That was a strange looking trailer, is it some kind of special vehicle for Ro-Ro traffic? It looks a bit short to have “normal” length, or is it a container? I would appreciate if you had any more information about it, it reminds me of road/rail traffic the Swedish state railways tried out at the time LB76 were used. Here´s a photo from a Swedish colleague
Could it be a riddle in the right lower corner of the Road ferry “container”… what´s the square root of 14334-9?

I think Stellan that is the carriers licence number for Belgium, i dont think it is anything to do with mathematics mate.

Bang on the money there Bill, the Belgies always had those numbers marked on the sides of their motors, I think the V prefix denotes international, which is plausible if you think about the Flemish language
Here you have a real Scania-Vabis fleet. Owner Göran Nyholm Korsholm Finland.
This picture is from last summer.
Thanks Jontii nice trucks.
One thing I remember about the LB76 is that there wasn’t many of them about, even in the early 70s, as well as all the older British stuff, I remember seeing lots of 80s and 110s and of course 86s and 88s, but the LB76 was quite a rare sight, I know they never sold in great numbers, but it still strikes me as rather odd, was this a case of Scania buying them all back and shipping them out so that the newer 80s and 110s could sell better, or was I going around with my eyes closed
The 2600 Daf was the same, never saw many of them around either

It was just a steady build up as far as Scania were concerned, you’ve got to remember that the old established British haulier was very wary of anything completely new and ,of course, the major British manufactures still had a firm hold in the 60’s so it was a difficult job for the foreign imports to make inroads especially when they had to create a completely new( and unproven) dealer network from scratch ! Cheers Dennis.
I hear what you’re saying Dennis, but they sold a few thousand of them, which IIRC was similar to the number of Atki Borderer’s sold, yet you never used to see many on the road, a very rare beast indeed

Well were did they all go and who mainly ran them NMM ? I can never recall seeing many LB76’s up and down the road, have you got the actual numbers that entered the UK ? Interesting though,to say the least Cheers Dennis.
