Scania T Cab

Hello all.
I hope I have put this in the right part of the forum.
Please can someone tell me about them, as I`m struggling to find any decent info on the net about them.
Did they start in 95 until Oct 2005?
Thanks.
Alan

I’ve just had a quick peek at Chapter 3 in Eric Gibbins’s book, Trucks Today: Scania and it appears that this cab first appeared in 1972 with the 140. Or are you asking specifically only about the 3-series? Robert

Thank you for the reply Robert.
I`m after info on the series 3 models, and series 4 ones. When did they first appear, I have read it that series 3 started about 1980? and the series 4 started in 95, but have read other posts with differant years, with series 4 ending in 2006?

OK mate. I think the 3-series came in around 1988. There are plenty of Scania officionados on here who’ll put us right. Wikipedia gives the following info:

The Scania 3-series is a truck model range introduced in 1987 by Swedish truck manufacturer Scania. It is the successor of the 2-series.The 3 series came in a range of different engine sizes and horsepower from 9.0 litre 230 horsepower all the way up to 14 litre V8 500 horsepower engine. Production of the 3-series was stopped after the 4-series were introduced in 1997.

Cheers, Robert

Here’s another snippet I found on a Scania site:

In 2005…The T-model said goodbye - Scania put an end to a century-long design concept. Sales of the bonneted T-model had declined during the past 10 years, and it was no longer defensible to continue developing and producing it.

Hope that helps! Robert

Hi all,

This is what i can add,
I believe the 4 series T cab was launched at the Hanover show in September 1996 ,it was available in the uk by October 1997, up take was initially slow in the UK ,one of the first substantial orders was for Cyril Knowles who initially acquired 7 ,these were 6 x T124.400 and one with the T124. 460 bhp engine these were all R reg(1997)…

As far as i know Coles of Banbury are operating one of the last Tcabs -this a 2006 model ,with the topline cab…

Hope this helps

Regards

First of all. Thanks to everyone who so far has replied.
The reason is of me asking, Im looking at starting up a Tcab group/society, but Im struggling to find info on them, mainly series 3-4, but don`t really want to start anything yet without the proper info, which seems a bit low on the ground.
Thanks again.
Alan.

Have patience, Alan. Series 3 & 4 Scanias still have a huge following and the T-cabs have always been regarded as rather iconic (not entirely my cuppa tea, but as a transport historian I notice trends - and in any case I always enjoyed driving 142s and 143s - and by the way I did sit in the driver’s seat of the wagon pictured below and it was deffo good!). I suspect that there are TNUK users out there who know everything there is to be known about these proud beasts. Keep feeding the thread with any ■■■-bits and pictures you can find and you’ll gradually draw them all in.

My only claim to any connection with the T-cab series 3 Scania was a trip I made to Doha in 2001. Astran asked me to meet up with another driver in Ancona, Italy, to continue the journey together. I loaded and arrived in Ancona to find Dave Poulten, of Destination Doha fame with a magnificent old 143 ex-Gilders with the T-cab set-up.

Good luck! Robert

PS Are you aware that there is a thread called ‘Pics of Scania T-cabs’ on the PHOTOS forum on this site? Loadsa pics there! Robert

The first T came out in March 1980. There was no forward control 2 series until December 1980 so, if you wanted the new model, you had to have a T. Those first T’s had 1 series engines. The updated engines were introduced with the forward control cabs.

Dear All.
I`m after information on the Scania T-Cab, series 3&4 from the UK.
I have a small database which I have collected over the past 18 months -2 years on T-Cabs, first registered, re-registered, companies they were used by, etc, etc in the UK.
I have been trawling Flickr and other Truck related websites in my spare time.

I have asked on a few other Facebook Groups, and other Truck Forums, but the info is VERY slow at coming forward.
The reason Im asking, is Id like to start a group (society?) on the T-Cab, a register if you like, but with very little information, to start off with, it wouldn`t attract many people.
I have skills to build a website from scratch, and have the time to do it, but need help with collecting the info.

I need reg numbers,
Companies they worked for,
Re-registered details(Dates),
Chassis(VIN) Numbers etc,
Export dates and the country they were exported to,
Scrap dates, and reason they were written off.
Anything at all that may help me.
Can anyone please assist me with any of the above?
Or, email me please at TCABSCANIA@AOL.COM
UK T-CABS SERIES 3&4 ONLY PLEASE. (The rest of the world would be too big for me as I have other hobbies and interests also.)
Thank you for reading this.
Alan

They look daft over here. Some cider company has got one that I’m assuming is supposed to be the front end of a W&D outfit, although I couldn’t see any obvious connecting points. Rest of it was no longer than a 7.5, looked bloody daft as, if you ask me
