jase:
Well im afraid i’m going to have to eat my words about what i said about Scanias.
Now i’m on days i’m using every motor we’ve got and for the past 4 days i’ve been using the new “r” series and its a revalation over my earlier experiences.
Opticruise seems to be a lot quicker on the 10mth R440 ive drove today, holds the road like glue, very comfortable to drive and a briliiant sound system.
If Stobarts reinstate tramping i’d have no problem with going tramping in one of these, dare i say it,i prefer them to my old Volvo.
This what I run but with a manual 3 over 3 with splitter - Great truck
In the last couple of years or so i’ve gone through an R470- R500(V8)- R420, all Topliners, and for most of the last year an R440 Highliner. The first 2 were manuals, and i’ve got to say that i found that 12 speed box a bit notchy on both of them, I had a premium before with the ZF manual and that was a great box very smooth changes. but the overall package well quite a bit better than a Premium to live in all week, and the V8 didnt need to many gear changes. Then I got put in the 420, as the V8 was on hire boo, and that was the first truck with an auto shift that I’d driven, send it a post card slow changes or what. But the climate control and multi adjustable and extremely comfy seat softened the blow. Then that was replaced with this 60 plate R 440, which is very fleet spec, but the gear changes are quicker, and though on paper only 20 hp more than previuos one it seems to pull alot better and holds on hills better. out of these 4 trucks the 470 with over the screen bunk was by far the best layout to live in, and the best bed to.
Earlier I mentioned the Premium, I driven alot of Renaults, never a Magnum though, and if I had gone from a Premium to the Highliner I would have been slightly under whelmed by Scania King of the Road.
My veiw Topline special, Highline just another truck. good but not spectacular
Just filled up with deisel, and this is the one thing that really gets up my hooter. Why do Scania keep putting these piddly little twin tanks on, instead of one decent sized tank on one side, preferably the offside, and move exhaust and batteries to the saame side.
