Can anyone tell me what the red dot on the scania badges means? Does it mean anything?
it basicly means that the engine has the high pressure injection system, its supposed to give more torque and better ecomony that non red dot 420
also the reddot has the same engine that the 470 has expect the 470 has an extra small turbo and some extra gearing for the turbo compounding
that’s it really put in simple terms
It also means it sounds like its misfiring and short of diesel when first fired up,they also put hot fuel back to the tank like a ■■■■■■■ so should not freeze up if you have to go to Siberia.
R143-500:

Isn’t this true with every truck manufacturer? Fuel which isn’t injected to combustion chamber flows past the fuel pump, becames warmer and flows back to the tank. I think this is quite essential for engines response to the gas pedal. I’ve once driven old Merc where this “backflow” system was malfunctioning and it felt like engine would’ve halt every time when gas pedal was pushed even a little deeper as there was too much fuel injected to cylinders. So I think this has nothing to do with red dot in Scania badge that was original question.
PS. Point about fuel not freezing is valid only as long as engine is running if fuel isn’t meant for use in such temperatures
the red dot 420 and the 470 throw somw serious feul back in the tank it does seem to happen on the daf or volvo as the tanks gets very hot even in summer you can see the heat coming off the tank

who cares just drive it
I was told that a 420 red dot was a 420 until the thing started to struggle uphill or something and then it uprated itself to a 470. Bit like the Ford TDCi engine in the Jaguar X type diesel.

Nope someone is having you on there,
the 420 red dot just means it is a High Pressure injection system or HPI
rather and the normal 420
