hi all new to this website, but been in transport for 24yrs we have been running vans for 7 yrs, and for the last 2 yrs ive been giving do we get some trucks as my subbie bill keeps on going up, so i bit the bullet and our o’licence came through, bought a 55 reg magnum 480dxi been perfect just one abs sensor on the midlift,
but ive been and bought a scania r480 which has been spot on, until monday morning when i got in it and tried to start it not enough guts in the batteries, thought i would try a 2nd time to start it (fingers crossed) it turned overfor about 2 seconds and then everything just went dead, nothing would work or light up, now i know the batteries arnt that flat.
took a wire battery to start motor and nothing, so removed batteries and did a bypass on the isolator, and haypresto ive got power , go to turn the key everything is lite up on the dash but when i turn the key theres nothing
put new starter motor on and new batteries, still the same when you turn the key, now ive but a wire on the back of the startmotor and turned the ignition on then put the wire to the + on the anderson lead and she turns over and starts and runs perfect, but it will just not turn over on the key
scania are saying ecu
can anyone think of anything, ive got a sparky coming tomorrow hopefully

Electrics are a bugger . could be something s simple as a fuse or a broke wire to the chip…
by the way nice looking Scania, not sure on the Maggie though

thanks mate, i love maggie, but the scania is mine all mine i tell ye
if you managed to start it earlier ,can’t see how scania can say it’s the ecu…as you say it will be something stupid…reason behind earths ,is if batt are fully charged ,and vehicle sluggish to turn over ,it is generally a poor connection ie earth…
you won’t be popular with the scania lovers , who believe they are faultless…

I gotta say I love the Scania but like all trucks they all have their own individual problems somewhere.
If the bats are fully charged you need to put a meter across the bats to check what’s coming back if you think its the alt. I would expect its a bad earth if it’s struggling to turn…
with the new batterys it turns over perfect, but only if i put the straight wire from the starter motor to the + on anderson lead, if you try and start it with the key nothing happens
im not clued up on scanias ,but I would check and see if any fuses and relays are ok.with the relay you have the advantage of seeing if it has it powers and earths, and you can then hopefully find out which way you have to go ,also you can bypass it to see if vehicle starts or even to check if you now get a feed to starter

exactly what have you done to the isolatorâ– â– ?
joined both cables and bolted them together to bypass the isolator for now got a sparky coming tomorrow so sort everything out HOPEFULLY
when you turn the key its sending 100% all earths are ok, looking like ecu has fried
once he gets the wiring digram he can by-pass the problem but says over time the ecu will get worst with other faults, looks like my egr has gone was well, it drinking some water
im thinking time to dig deep and hold on
tempted to just take it to scania and just get the job lot sorted
put 24v direct to the starter.
or,
The most common problem when jump starting a lorry is not connecting up to the batteries correctly. If you connect them in parallel rather than series, you won’t get the umph. The dash will light up to make you think everything is the way it should be.
