Hi guys.
I’m looking to buy a truck and would like to know what is fuel economy on your R450?
My Renault does 10mpg (loads up to 12000kg) and I’ve heard that scania does 11-12mpg on same loads. Is that true?
Kind regards.
Our 26tonner R450 Euro6 Topline does 13.5mpg over its last 60,000km. Miles ahead of anything else on our fleet except the 12 ton Merc Atego 1227 which does 17mpg.
The R450 is the one to have if you’re not buying a V8. The R490 is pants in comparison.
One thing to bear in mind is that the 13litre 6 cylinder Scania does love its adblu.
For comparison, 3 of us ran to Motherwell from Coventry, 2 artics and the R450 as drawbar at 44, 44 and 41t (w&d) up, and empty back down. Mpg’s were 10.5mpg R580 top line. 9.4mpg R490 highline. 14.0mpg R450 top line W&D.

Thank you. I really appreciate it. The only thing I would say is that in buying a tractor 6x2 but I hope there isn’t much of a difference

Sorry to trouble you again, what year is it■■?
R450 is a 2016. All R450’s are Euro6 anyway so year doesn’t matter that much.
R580 is 2015, R490 is 2017. All Euro 6.

My R450 6x2 has not been as economical as Scania claims them to be, but they have not found anything wrong with it. They also like to blow their crappy Garrett turbos around 300-400 K.

Thank you Lenny.
I suppose like with anything it does brake down at some point.
There isn’t such a thing as bullet proof truck

Yes but 300 K is too soon.
My last years average was 9,1 mpg doing Finland-Benelux.
That is from calibrated computer, from factory they usually show about 10% better numbers.
14mpg for w&d at 41t! Blimey thats good.
That is very good indeed
