While my Hitlers revenge (Atego) has been in for MoT (i do miss it when they send me out in the noddy van) I had a hired Scania from Salford Van hire.
Everyone @ work took the micheal as It was a sleeper cab. I usally stay in hotels I wanted to sleep in the lorry not because Iam wierd but the jobs I was given I didnt want to be tied down to a hotel.
I was very impressed with the layout, comfort, all round vision and power. Even the bunk was very ■■■■■ apart from the night heater controls I woke up @ 4am sweating because I knocked it on when moving in my sleep but apart from that I had a good 8hrs kip. The storage was good too.
One bug I had with the truck was a couple when fully loaded of times when going down thru the gears for traffic lights or roundabouts or juction and stopping, once selecting the correct gear and lifting my foot off the clutch there was no power from the throttle not even idle. Does this happen on the R-P series or is the lorry I had faulty (probably its got salford on the side whose worse Road range or salford)
Monday Iam back in my day cab Atego grrrrrrrr
.
Only used one a couple of times when I worked for Owens, hated the bloody thing. OK for the odd night I suppose but I’d sooner have a DAFany day for that sort of work, CF cab is far superior. Having also used an Atego though I’d have to admit the Scanny would be an improvement!
Regarding the gears, IIRC they’re fitted with an inhibitor switch which prevents you moving off in any gear but first. Absolute PITA especially if you’re empty.
They all do it as a clutch saving feature. Good idea but as drivers try to override it the slave cylinder wears and then leaks usually saturating the cab floor with oil
Cant win em all eh!
CF cab is far superior.
I quite agree when working on the agency I had a 85cf for the night was very impressed with that didnt get to sleep in it but was a ■■■■■ ride.
I would have a sleeper cab all the time just for the storage but the company i work for well lets just say the last transport manager failed his CPC 3times and only worked in that company in his career and our new transport manager hasnt got a CPC knows nothing about the job hasnt ever worked anywhere else and the company wont spend the money either
I’ve never had any issues getting them to move off in second or third gear from rest, despite the big red sticker telling me not to at the top of the windscreen.
When changing down though, even if you switch to low and choose the correct gear, if you’re going to fast, it won’t select gear at all. Make sure the road speed is slow enough it will click and go in gear fine.
