Scania New Generation engine choices

Confused here. I thought the new gen 500 was a 6 pot lump but I saw one this evening on a private plate advertising it was a V8 500 according to the decals plastered all over it. The 520 is a V8 is it not, along with the 580? The 540 is a 6 potter for sure. Was it marked up wrong or are the 500 new gens V8s ? Scania UK website doesn’t specify.

Note I’m just referring to the new gens here, not the R series engines which preceeded it.

The V8 range seems to be 530, 590, 660, and 770.

It’s a 6 cylinder.

It is actually on the Scania website, just takes a bit of finding, I tried to link to it but it isn’t playing. If you go on the Scania UK Configurator site, select a spec doesn’t matter what until you get to the page asking if you want to make a detail spec, click on that then go to powertrain and you get the full list if engine options, click on the “i” of any engine you’re interested in and low and behold you get a detail spec and power and torque curve charts.

The 500 inline 6, is a 450 with different ecu settings. Basically a chipped 450.

We’ve got both V8 and 6cyl, only difference is on hills the V8 had bit more grunt at the top of a climb.

OK, so to you and the previous responder, are you saying they did a V8 500 new gen as well then or it’s only even been a 6 potter? If the latter then how do you explain the “V8 500” decals plastered all over it? Delusions of grandeur by the driver?

520 was the starting point for the V8 in a new gen, 500 was the lowest power V8 in the R series

Interesting. The driver seems to have delusions of grandeur then as it was definitely a new gen. Can’t remember the reg but it was (x) 500 ETS, red in colour and turned into the abbatoir at Sawley near Clitheroe. Looked really smart.
