This is one of five crusaders belonging to rhr bearings.Their reg numbers were RNN184N, RNN185N,GTV185N,GCH330N,and HRB837N
RNN184N and HRB837N were based at newark.GTV185N at ferrybridge,RNN185N at chelmsford.and GCH330N at blackburn.
That yankyfied one(is there such a word ?).coupled to the Dave Dickson tilt.
Pretty sure that one of my ex employers -Alan Bond owned that at one stage.
I reckon the pic was taken at the short lived truckshow @ South Cerney airfield?
Had a pic of it in his office with a Leggett Freightways trailer on.
HI CARNA
i remember jock him and old syd used have some right old verbal battles but who didnt,he used to love that old SEDAK
That one made to look a Kenworth surely survived? I posted the scans from Truck magazine when they did an article years back (2005) - Il try and find them and re-post. It was very well done as I recall, even inside.
NSU 628P last taxed 1984 according to DVLA - interestingly it says it was coloured Black though. Didnt last long then, the Truck article was 82 or 83. Shame.
I went out this arvo to help a mate with his 67 AEC Marshall and met a bloke who was opperating this Crusader a few years ago. He has since sold it to an earth moving contractor in the South Island who removed the curtain sider and fitted a flat deck and use’s it to transport his dozer.
It has a V8 Detroit and a 15 speed Road ranger.
Unfortunately the Crusader was left to die and it should have been the British flagship motor, forget the T45 and Marathons, they were mean looking and regrettably one of the many trucks I never drove. They were a very common sight coming out of Hull on the old A63 though.

hiya,
The only time i ever drove a Scammell Crusader was for this outfit where i worked for a short while and this was the one i drove a world of difference from the 180 ERF i usually drove they had to use a crowbar to get me out of her, fantastic motor only did the one trip in it but a great drive.
thanks harry long retired.
The Crusader was popular down our way too. Many of the local operators had them on their fleets, Francis Davis from Faversham, Colin Ashby from Maidstone and PD Transport all had them, as did Mitchell & Robertson, Maylen"s, and Clarkes from Meopham. Unfortunatly hardly any photos exist of these lorries, and most of the companies also went out of business years ago.
