Come on you oldies,I just about remember seeing Scamell scarabs out and about,but you guys that drove em what’s the furthest delivery point you did.I know they were supposed to be local but surely it must have happened, you know urgent delivery,customer desperate and all that.
I worked with a bloke who claimed that when BR shut Worthing goods yard down he drove it to Brum and took 3 days
Harveys of Bristol, the sherry people, had some Scammell Townsmen (the last version of the three wheeler) and they occasionally did Bristol to London along the A4 pre M4.

Well I drove these Scammells, The Mechanical Horse type in 1957. Then they were replaced with the awful Scarab, They had a four cylinder diesel engine and a Scammell gate change gearbox and very poor brakes, But they did their job pulling loads from the Docks on the Newcastle Quayside into Baxters warehouses on the Milk Market, Plus they were also used on local deliverys, Regards Larry.
