I actually saw this beast in the flesh some years ago at Retromobile in Paris, quite a sight to behold I can tell you!

jshepguis:
Taken this today down in Angola, in the Sonamet offshore fabrication yard at Lobito. First took a picture of this Willeme unit around 2005 when it was still in use in the yard.
But as you can see now just parked up and abandoned. Discussion years ago i think it was concluded that it was an ex Zucconi unit.

Shouldn’t that be on it’s way back to France to be restored in it’s former glory…?

pv83:
This came out of the archives of the Zwagerman family, a heavy haulage firm not far from where I live. I never knew that they operated a Berliet, can’t have been many about back in the late 60’s in Holland I reckon, especially in 6x4 form. Note the different front bumper too, was this a “in-house” conversion or did it came standard on the heavier models?

This truck looks strange to me! It has the first Relaxe cab, mounted far in front of the axle, which is also of the first model, fitted on the GRK (4x2) and GPRK (6x2) models. It could then be a GPRK converted into a tractor; I’ll do my best to find more about it.

It’s a TRK 10 converted into a tractor, with an added third axle. Certainly unique!

End of the fifties and begin of the sixties BERLIET was represented/imported by MOVATI in Tilburg, Southern part of Holland. Later Hocké from Belgium
took over in Waalwijk with also Steyr and roughly a decade later also Seddon-Atkinson.

Here some images from early sixties documentation

Strangely, the one on the first picture (top) has no windscreen!

First version of airconditioning…in a sustainable way

More later on Hocké in the BeNeLux with Berliet

Cheers Paul. Is it fair to assume that this was a one-off?

Cheers, I never knew that.

Indeed. Probably converted on the request of its owner. A very interesting truck!

Some Dutch input on Berliet:

  • 1958 Movati from Tilburg represented Berliet in Holland

  • 1964 a special RAI-publication from Hocké

I’ll see if I can find out some more about it Paul, it’s definitely got my attention now.

Vercingetorix on the move back in 1901.

Pubquiz question, what is it?

pv83:
Vercingetorix on the move back in 1901.

Definitely a steam wagon and, if it’s French-built, possibly a Purrey.

Pubquiz question, what is it?

It seems te bear the Chevrolet logo.

pv83:
Pubquiz question, what is it?

DAF

Seems the Zagerman Berliet was a GPRK 10 modified as a tractor unit because the wheelbase is longer than a TRK.
Here one in Belgium.

pv83:
Pubquiz question, what is it?

Definately a Chrevrolet but the coach- or bodymaker had the seven bars from DAF in mind.

This chassis went further with registration SJ-85-23 and the picture is from around 1961.

Met up with the Whippersnapper yesterday, after showing him how to load and secure it properly, we went and had some supper…good job us oldies are around to show the children how to do it. :unamused:
