Not seen it before here, NMM. What a beautifully trim outfit! Robert

Evening all,

By gum Mark, you have found a rare one there!

That Mack F serie belonged to Transports Bomo, (as did the Bernard “Television” next to her). Transports Bomo were part of a consortium of Eastern French Hauliers trading as Les Routiers de lEst. Other members that I can remember were Transports, Gast, Bergantz,Steimmetz, and Klein. I think that the grouping became quite large, but by the end of the `80s had shrunk to around six. The “go ahead” firm was Transports Klein, who I think ended up owning the total shareholding of the Group. Certainly Klein ended up expanding into a Volvo lorry outlet. They were located in Bischoffsheim, 67.

I expect that our friend Michel will know a lot more about this Grouping as he is located in this part of France. These little commercial groupings flourished quite well in the 50s through to the late `70s, and were a characteristic of the smaller French Hire and Reward operations. Unlike in the British industry there was a great deal of “sharing”, which I found very refreshing to see.

Some of these outfits ran really handsome outfits, high specification, premium machines.

Bet you had a harder frost than we had here this morning…miss your Brandt Blogs, they were superb, (and a lot of work)!..How about doing something about what you are doing now? Everyone would appreciate it!

Lovely picture of that Mack though, I really loved mine, (RIJ 334), boy could she pull…

Raise a glass to the West to you tonight,

Cheerio for now.

Posted on page 37, along with pictures from the same fleet…but, no problem, it’s nice to see them again, I’m always posting pics that I’ve put on before, not intentional, just old age… can’t remember what I’ve posted… :unamused:

As I said, I’m only half way through this excellent thread, for some reason it didn’t come up on my feed (I use the tapatalk app on my tablet) so I’m overwhelmed by everything I’ve seen and read so far in the last couple of days.

The cab architecture is outstanding and even though I’ve travelled the French highways and byways many times, I had no idea how extensive and eclectic their lorry history is.

Add that to the information contained on the pages and memories and anecdotes of Saviem et all and this thread is among the best I’ve seen on this forum.

It goes from strenght to strenght, with new posters and pictures…

In case you didn’t know Newmercman or for anyone else, if you go to where the page numbers are, either at the top or the bottom of the page, to the left is the number of posts ( 2000+) and next to it highlighted in blue is the current page numberi.e 84 of 84, if you hit that it will go to a panel so you can select a page number…if you go to page 37 and scroll down toward the end of the page there are a few pics of the fleet and the various wagons they used…

Sorry, just seen you’re a moderator, so of course you’ll know that trick, still it might help someone who didn’t…

The company still works in haulage with FH green and red. They also have a Volvo workshop in Obernai south from Strasbourg.
In the beginning of 80th, Mr Klein father bought a Leyland ‘Marathon’ 6x4 with a crane to haul trees ; in Strasbourg at this period Mr Baumgartner had a Leyland franchise in Fegersheim close to the highway , south in direction of Colmar.

It does, never knew how to go to a specific page and as I am trailing through Bubbleman scrapbook again…thanks

Among “Routiers de l’ Est” there was also family Bomo who owns these Bernard and later Mack seen before. André, a brother was the driver of this Bernard-Mack TD 211 which had an article in german “Fernfahrer” mag middle of the 80th when loading in west of this country.
