It’s a key operated mechanical locking device that fits onto the trailer brake line connector.

Its purpose is to prevent re-connection of the air brake hose, thereby immobilising the trailer.

Once fitted, it can only be removed with a key.

Easy enough. You reverse onto dock, you’ll either be given a salvo or there will be one in a case at the side of the dock. You remove red airline, put salvo on, which releases key, you then insert the key into a lock on the side of the bay door which allows the dock operator to operate the bay door/ramp. When finished, door is shut & only then is the key released to let you remove the salvo & replace red airline.

Easy enough, but if you are close coupled with a fridge on it can be a real pain to get to the airlines without pulling out from under the trailer…

Don’t close couple. Have the sliding 5th wheel about 2/3rds in rather than all the way, thus leaving enough space to do the biz on the catwalk.

Or a 27mm spanner and £10 new coupling :unamused:

Seriously, we’ve been out to a few of these where the keys are damaged or lost.
Just unscrew the C coupling off the trailer and fit a new one. 10 minutes tops.

As a security device, they’re a fail.
Same as fitting them anti-syphon necks on diesel tanks, when the stack pipe is right next to it and just twists in.

Or then cat locks, that chain the catalytic converter to the chassis. The toerags don’t use spanners to carefully unbolt the cat off the vehicle. They cut them off. As if that chain will stop a pair of bolt croppers. Someone never thought it through.

Just park unit at a bit of an angle it’s easy to do and makes uncoupling with a fridge a little easier.

I’ve only had to use them at one freezer depot and that was years ago.

It was Christian Salvesen then, at Bedworth (M6 J3), so that must be a Nobby
Dressing Table Depot now - if it’s still on the go these days.

We would back onto a bay, trailer brake on, drop trailer legs, pull forward 18 inch,
cab brake on, drop cab suspension, disconnect red airline and replace with lock,
hand in the lock key and kip in the cab for ages.

Innovate Logistics and loved every minute of the job.

The best way to stop toerags doing just about anything illegal, is to throw in jail anyone out and about during the hours of darkness who hasn’t paid NICs that week. :smiling_imp:

If you’re that broke basically, and you’re not working, then you can only be committing a crime if out and about after the hours of darkness right? :unamused:

Good session?

They give you these at Walkers in Warrington. Basically when you takee the salvo and replace your red air line with the salvo to the trailer, a key will release. You then lock the key into the hole on the bay which turns the traffic light red. The red light will go green by way of the loading staff changing it and that is the only way that the key for your salvo will release. Then unlock salvo, re-apply air line (and release trailer brake if it pops on automatic) and away you go.

Basically they stop you moving the trailer off the pay. Obviously health and safety also have to justify their wages so they also take the keys to the truck off you incase you also pull out of the trailer and drop it on its knees. So the salvo is really redundant as they could just take your keys off you.

In Tesco Daventry they take your keys off you, make you put a salvo on AND STILL WONT LET YOU SIT IN YOUR CAB, MADNESS. :imp:

you have to use them at heinz in wigan if you go in with a box or container, and have to turn the key in a box on the wall to turn the bay light red

In some parts of heinz they have Wheel LOK, with is one of them bars you run over with the wheels and it basically locks the trailer tight to the bay, you ain’t going nowhere…AND THEY STILL TAKE YOUR KEYS OFF YOU !!! :unamused:

For ■■■■■ sake, are drivers so thick now that they have to ask about airline locks, if it looks like a C coupling with a key, just push the ■■■■ on the coupling and shut the ■■■■ up.

The reason we use them is because someone could not follow a simple instruction.

Good Night Trucknet. For ever

LOL mad head.

We wouldn’t have these problems if drivers could understand what the difference is between a red and green light.

I don’t see anything wrong with putting failsafes in place, the issues that a failsafe cause obviously need to be considered before you implement something, but in this case they’re minimal.

so whats wrong with asking a question, i have never seen or even heard about susie locks,
hence why i asked, albeit its people like you that dont help new drivers out when they stuck. as we can see by what you just put

You gotta remember that Wheel Nut is a Mr Know-it-all.

The industry is full of them.

Be as smart as they are - just ignore them.
