Considering going for this at Basingstoke. They are always looking for drivers at most RDC’s.
Good points, bad points would be appreciated.
I work for Sainsbury’s/Wincanton at Sherburn-In-Elmet. The job is the easiest one you’ll ever do, clean work and good pay.
I can’t speak for depots that are run by Sainsbury’s directly (ours is run by Wincanton) but a downside is the shift patterns.
Swings and roundabouts really on what routes you get, different every day. Personally I love the job but it’s not always to everyone’s taste.

I applied to sherburn depot, phoned me up to go for interview but the shift pattern was absolutely horrendous,
There was just no pattern to it and was all over the place and would of proper messed up my family life.
Was a shame as I really fancy supermarket work

Once you get used to it it’s ok-ish. It’s a 10 week rota, with 4 or 5 weekends off. The shift start spreads across 2hrs, and you won’t be planned for more than 12hrs work.
190hrs over the 4 week pay period is your contract, anything over that is time and half. Minimum shift is 8hrs, you will always be paid for min 190hrs at payday

I wanted 3am starts and around 10 hr shifts but he said I could have 3am to 5am starts up to 12 hour shifts and 7 full weekends in 10,no way could I start at 5am on a Saturday and Sunday and do 12 hours, but the 7 full weekends in 10 put me straight off the job anyway

I’m on the 9pm-11pm starts, loads of weekends off and some 4 days off/3 days off weeks. Suits me at the moment. If the pay was better elsewhere I’d probably move

Sounds similar to our shifts at Asda but with us we start same time every day and are payed 180 hrs every 4 weeks.
As with all supermarkets the most busiest time is weekends so your shift patterns are going to have lots of weekend working.

This always sets the alarm bells off…
About 4 years ago I done agency work out of Sainsburys in East Kilbride, and it was DHL who done the contract then. Job was very easy, having previously worked for DHL full time, I knew Sainsburys paid well, their drivers were on 10’s or 12’s, I assume it means one week you will do 10 hour shifts, and the following 12 hour shifts, similar to Asda with their 9’s or 11.25’s.
One really good thing I liked about Sainsburys compared to Co-op and Asda, when at the shops… For example I delivered to a shop in Edinburgh city centre, and the loading area was at the side of the shop, but it was the shop employees job to take it off the tail lift and take it along the pavement and into the shop. Unlike the Co-op where the driver has to get it from the tail lift and into the shop. Would make a difference to a job if you had to push cages down a busy street in a city centre vs not having to. Again this was years ago now, and even more years since I was in Co-op, might all have changed now.
Trucks are/were all limited to 50-52mph, par for the course with most supermarkets. Working hours as mentioned, weekends and silly start times. Never pushed to break the law or do silly things. Do it by the book and you should be alright.
A down side with me was doing first run on an artic, then coming back and decanting your card, bag ect into a rigid for your second run, then back to an artic for third run, would have preferred to keep my card and stuff in the one truck, and just swap/change trailers. Again I was agency, might be a bit smoother for full time boys.
Do Sainsburys/DHL or who ever runs the show advertise for jobs? I thought they just picked agency workers who had been there a while.
