correct, I spoke to a mate of mine who works in the warehouse, when I saw him friday night. He confirmed that the Maltby Depot will close in July. 99% of the staff will be 5 weeks under the barrier for redundancy payments, which means only 3-4 people will recieve any redundancy payment.
The Sherburn site will be a more central location to their delivery locations
It’ll be interesting to see how many former DHL/Exel/Somerfield/Kwik Save, (Delete as appropriate.) employees apply.
There’s one here who won’t.
Does anyone know,if the £11ph,is a fixed rate,or are they going to pay overtime on top of that, and saturday/sunday/bank holiday rates as well?
Ken.
Just found this on the web:-
5 March 2008
Sainsbury’s is to open a new 500,000 sq ft distribution centre in Sherburn in Elmet, West Yorkshire to support its growing convenience store business. Operations in Maltby and Skelton will be consolidated into this new unit in the latest stage of the retailer’s network re-configuration.
Bit far for me to travel but seems a good wage on the face of it? Alot better than some that have been posted of late!
Sherburn in Elmet, West Yorkshire
I love it when the papers get it wrong.

Not quite sure. A lot of the Maltby drivers I have spoken to say the money is good. However, the work and odd shift patterns may not be everybodys cup of tea!
When we were at that Sherburn site, the drivers were given a list of options at the interview on the shift patterns, and it seemed to work well.
I used to do Tues-Sat,and if I wanted a 6th shift,I used to throw in a Monday,but would never work Bank Holidays,whereas the Mon-Fri lads,had to.
Lets hope that Wincanton do the same thing, and if so,they could be onto a winner, and everyone will be happy.
Ken.
Rang about the Wincanton/sainsbuys job’s lots of interest for them , Was told that it was the old Somerfield / Kwiksave Site passed by there last week and it’s still in the somerfield colours, there’s a lot Of Newer Warehouse sites around it now as well.

No idea about Wincanton/Sainbury’s but with Wincanton/Somerfields i was there for a month last year. They were desperate for drivers and offering somthing that sounded similar.
Can’t remember the details but on paper it sounded pretty good, but the guys there who were on contracts from before were saying it wasnt that great. Can’t remember exact details but on paper looked better money than they were getting but in actual fact less money than they were getting and i don’t think there was any extra for weekend work and basically you were contracted for a set amount of hours which basically meant there was no OT. Basically it was a fixed rate for a set amount of hours.
Can’t really remember because all these big places i go everyone is always moaning about somthing and i tend to switch off lol
