Sainsburys rear steers?

THE TEMPLAR:
Followed a sainsburys artic yesterday , tandam rearsteer trailer, WHY ? where the hell do they go that warrents a rear steer , i cant help thinking they have too much money to waste. !

You’ve not been to Sainsburys at Surbiton then… :unamused:

That’s it Wheel Nut. Although it’s coming to something when you need to explain what a twin-steer unit is on a professional driver’s forum though eh? Chinese sixes were more like an 8 wheeler without the rear axle though weren’t they, same principle though. Anyway, back to the thread, trailers…! Yeah we have the castor steers here as previously explained, but was sure i’d heard of the positive steer versions, thanks for clearing that up.

for you new boys its a struggle to open the cab door yourself ,(interlog) If sainsburys is like Tesco ,you dont load them or tip them ,you drive from A to B oh and you might tune the radio in , no wait your shift manager will do that for you ,Please dont make out driving for a big supermarket is hard , your joking ,

A little harder than just trunking up and down the motorway I suppose? Oh I forget - it isn’t hard because you physically don’t touch the load!

But it makes the job not easy and more dangerous when trying to reverse up some tight alley to get to the unloading area of a store bang in the middle of London.

As I’ve said, you onviously haven’t done any supermarket work before. Perhaps you ought to do a shift out of the depot I work from. I’ll make sure you get one of the stores that is rather challenging. And for good measure I’ll give you biggest unit I can find with the lousiest of turning circles.

I’ll too have the accident form ready for you

surely they should be locked straight when reversing?

EH?

I guess driver’s referring to rear-steer trailers rather than twin-steer unit’s, am i right? The trailers i shunt about have a button on the side to lock the axle straight, or if the unit’s piped-up for it then it locks it automatically when you reverse. I think there’s also some that work from the angle of the coupling via a physical link, am i right? …probably not

almost all right i’d say, with the exception of the locking is done electrically with a wire (within the suzie… the reverse light supply) rather than a pipe.

Now who on earth complicated matters by starting talking about twin steer units? They were nothing to do with this topic and i don’t see as particularly relevant to it.

Wheel Nut:

THE TEMPLAR:
i dont think they save tyre wear , its a con, just like the biggest con off all ( after telling us 56mph is better for fuel econ) twin steers , what a load crap they are as well , we should,nt believe everything a desk boffin tells us ,

I should add to that we shouldn’t believe everything The Templar tells us either.

56mph is simple, it equates exactly to 90kmh. simple.

Why are twin steers crap? where else are you going to put the axle?

unless you mean you would prefer a tag axle so that you can do donuts :stuck_out_tongue:

Twas, him, then it was me. :stuck_out_tongue:

I give up! :unamused:

I’m off for a lie down… maybe it should be under a trailer to study the steering mechanism?

Crikey, pedantic!   Thanks for clearing that up drive! I was really just trying to explain your post to Giblsa, who replied with an “EH?”, but learnt a little in the process, thanks

As you may have read, i did try to stay off that subject as it was getting complicated enough as it was, but I’m afraid I also got sucked in along with Wheel Nut

Don’t know about sainsbury’s, Tesco do tip them at the stores though.
