Sainsburys jobs

tonights shropshire star sainsburys advertising for hgv drivers at hams hall 29,000 plus benefits, 10% discount in store, gym & subsidised canteen all vehicles air con & cd players,

Have seen them advertising in my local paper. Was thinking of applying but as I have no experience am not sure I could do it, am I right in thinking some of the places are hard to get and reverse into?

Some are, some aren’t. But at the end of the day, you can’t shy away from the reversing forever. You’re going to have to do it so why not do it on £29k?

mrpj-mate for that much I would reverse the length of the M1.
Don,t worry about the reverse thing if un-sure get someone(pref another driver to watch! anyone else says whoa!!! AFTER U HAVE HIT IT!!!)
good luck.

Good point, I’ll never get any better at reversing without practice. Didn’t realise they were paying that sort of money as they appear to be keen to recruit ie lots of ads in the paper, sainsbury trucks with L plates are a common sight near me, seems odd.

They are training warehouse staff to drive as they cant get drivers, so i dont think you will have a problem aslong as you have the right attitude.
And no, they arent hard to get into.

where is the nearest depot to northhampton

There is a depot in rugby, but from there you have the pick of the cream anyway.

And mrpj, they have driver trainers so they will coach you etc on reversing and usually send you out with a buddy, i worked for exel on the sainsburys contract from Bristol and they were pretty good there with new drivers.

Thanks for all the info

any siansbury’s depots in the south yorks or humberside regions?

I know there’s one up near team valley, gateshead.

what the ad does not say is 29000k is potential earnings if you work your every sixth shift :exclamation: :exclamation:
also you WILL have to work 7 weekends out of 10 …

i know i applied and then didnt bother when the true scenario exposed itself … not my cup of tea but maybe yours …
plus they are also in the " keep advertising " every few months routine … one has to only ask on an interview why ■■?
i suspect high staff turnover

Does anyone know if they want drivers at Haydock, i rang their H/R office got put on hold, i will have to try them again but will not hang on the phone forever

hi gordo there is a sainsbury at rotherham i know when you come of from the north j34 under the m1 past medowhall when you come the roundabout 2nd exit of they are up there on the left.

Off on a tangent slightly, saw a DHL wagon and drag whildt out today, running with "L"s on. First time I have ever seen any truck, apart from training companies, on "L"s.

There’s hope for me yet

Had to reply to distill a few myths, It is poss to earn 29000 one mate topped 38.000 but i think he lived there. :exclamation: But the basic works out around 24000!pitfalls are, we work 5 out of 7  they are after early afternoons or very early mornings, u get daily start times but these may only vary by 2 hours either side of ur preffered, it is banked hours as well, they are paid quarterly, based on 45 hours a week 48.75 inc breaks.Planning is crap and sometimes u will sit around for 8hours.  they have just passed paid breaks and guaranteed 8 hours so things are getting there currently going through pay talks esp with the wtd imminent. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
hope this helps
anything else just ask

They mention part time work is available, is this possible or have they just put it in the advert to get people to apply?

I think so but it’ll be weekends mainly , I’ll find out for ya tho let ya know for definate.

You can get part time work at all the Sainsburys depots. Monday, Friday and Saturday are busiest. Same with full time work, Stoke are recruiting as well as Hams Hall. The job itself is a doddle but you have to be prepared to work most weekends and to be [zb] about by the office (nothing new there). The 29k is mostly wishful thinking unless, as has been said, you live there on permenant nights.
Some of the stores can be a bit awkward to get into, especially some city centre ones but on the whole theres not much of a problem. They have a fairly high turnover at the Stoke depot but I think thats because drivers get fed up working weekends. Also, they tell you the job is based on 9hours a day and that attracts a lot of drivers, until they find out that 9 turns into 12 more often than not. As I said, the job is easy enough, it’s just the attitude of the [zb] that run it but if you can let it all go over your head and bite back now and then, it’s ok. :sunglasses:

Small one.L.

Thanks for the replies about part time work, not too fussed about the wages at the moment, but would be put off by being pressured into doing more hours than I need (as zuluwarrior points out). Interesting to hear most places are not too much of a problem to get into, glad asked the question.
