I’ve been summarily dismissed following an incident I videoed and reported to my manager. The phone was in a handsfree mount and I videoed the problem I was having (and have had before) with the vehicle trailer snaking. I showed the manager, as i’ve reported the problem before but nothing was done.
Cut to three days later and the rig has been tested, and i’m called to a meeting. I was told it was an independent investigation into the safety of the vehicle, it was nothing of the sort. I realised 10 mins in that I was the subject of the investigation, and have since been summarily dismissed for gross negligence.
I did not at any time have the phone in my hand, and I did not ‘cause or re-enact’ the incident, which is how what i’ve been accused of doing. I am going to appeal, but I don’t hold out much hope. I know what the cause was and i’ve told them before. It’s a case of the tractor unit not man enough to pull the trailer when it’s fully loaded.
I know I did nothing incorrect, I was told that I should have stopped and called for assistance, but I knew that if I kept my speed down It would be ok as I was tipping in 20 mins. It’s happened before and i’ve reported it, but nothing was done, so why would I report it again? It also seems a severe punishment when other drivers have really committed acts of gross negligence causing thousands of pounds of damage to pulic and company property and still kept their jobs.
Anyone got any advice here please?
I feel as though I’ve reported a H&S problem then got fired.
