Saab Scania

When Saab went bust a month or two ago, did this affect Scania. Are the 2 companies completly seperate now even though they still share the same logo ?

Used to be a part of GM, then bought by another firm, not had the logo for a while now…

General motors bought majority shares in Saab in 1989 when Saab-Scania were officially split into two separate companies, Saab was sold again in 2010 to the dutch sports car firm Spyker as GM was on the brink of bankruptcy itself.

scania are owned by VW now. They hope to integrate scania and MAN technolgies. god help us all!

It’s a crying shame GM didn’t take on Scania, they would have taken over the truck market here, Scania’s are not allowed to be sold here The US say it’s due to polution laws bu thats bull s***, they knw Scania could out sell KW and the rest.
Same reason european cars are either altered to sell more oil or completely banned, like the Ford Diesel range, Fiesta etc not sold here because the are too economical. When the focus was launched here (2 years after the UK) the manuals recomended oil change interval was 3,000 miles when the Vtec engine which was German made could go 10,000 between oil changes, the book were altered to sell more oil.
USA is an oil based ecconomy.
Our Honda Pilot states a 3,000 mile oil change but if you look on line at Honda it’s 7,500 miles.
On my first trucking company here we had a Volvo VN 610 with a European Volvo engine, it did far better fuel mileage than the other trucks.

You mean VW :bulb:

Lots of people on UK/TN call Scanias, I can’t fault them. Yes parts and breakdowns cost silly money but in my opinion so do other brands.
Where Scania wins is on resale value!! I have just sold a 420 (2000 reg) for exactly half what i paid for it in 2005. By comparison the
Daf I had before that I ran for the same length of time, when I sold it after seven years it went for one tenth of what it cost me to buy.
In neither case is there any part ex to distort the figures. Ps the scania averaged 9.4 mpg over the seven years I had it, running
almost exclusivley on containers. Any one who knows me will back me on the mpg figures as they know I am obsessive about
my fuel consumption and the figures are there to prove it. regards kevmac47
