Rye - Help please

Was quite pleased to get given a run to Rye tomorrow until I saw it on the map.

My delivery is to Lion Street which is not going to be possible, the High Street could be a possibility as it’s a tracked machine and can be driven along the road.

Looking at Street View and I’m wondering if it’s possible. 12m long 8 wheeler.

I’d welcome suggestions, don’t really want to be in the Rye newspaper for demolishing a tudor shop or similar.
Cheers

My advice is to study the map of the area, study the company name, and try and get their phone number, then ask them the best way in, as you have a delivery for them. Its years since i went to RYE, but i know there is a very large transport company called ( JEMPSONS ) in rye…so you could give them a ring also, there is always a way in, so dont panic, and tomorrow you will wonder why you did…good luck

+1 remember to tell them the size of the truck your driving cause you’ll be surprised when you tell them you gotta 40ft artic and they say yeah we’ve had vans down here no problem :unamused:

I’m not one to get stressed about things but I know Rye is a quaint little place and seeing it in the centre on the map set the bells ringing. I’ve had a look around on street view and it’s probably doable providing there are no blue badge holders on awkward corners.

It’s a micro crusher which often go to tiny little sites where getting muck out and material in is a problem. It’s a stupid load for a 7.5t, daft thing is the company we’re hauling for have a 7.5t of their own.

Just wondered if anyone had actual experience.

Cheers

Parking on the High Street definatly looks like your best bet, but looking at it I think you’d be best getting in there early to park up. The only way in looks to be via Cinque Ports St, then right onto East Cliff under the towers (which look on the narrow side). There are signs for a 6"6 width restriction, but looks like it’s on the one way street (Landgate) heading away from the towers.

Go early. Parked cars will probably be your achilles heel.

Oh dear!

Lion Street is one way and the whole area including High Street has a 7.5t weight limit, also no loading between 11am and 3pm. The high Street is also one way and entry is via a 13’ 6" arch with a very tight turn into it. If you get to the arch and cannot get through the alternative has a 6’ 6" width limit and your on a one way street so cannot go back.
Are you sure Lion Street is really the delivery point?
If the tracked vehicle is road legal it might be better to drop it at the cattle market and drive it there!!

Yes Lion Street is the delivery address :frowning:

I can fit under the arch although turning under it might be tricky. Luckily it’s an 8x2 so quite good at tight turns compared to an 8x4, only downside is the 14’ tail swing  The crusher only weighs 750kg so it’ll be axle up.

It’s one of these things, don’t suppose it’d be a problem to track it from the high street but further afield is probably a no go. It’s pedestrian controlled though so probably no licence / insurance issues if they do.

Think I’ll have to get a site contact and sound them out, trouble is unless they say “don’t even contemplate it, it’s still an unknown”

Have been shopping in Rye this morning, didn’t see any problems so I guess you made it OK, or didn’t go?

Yes, I phoned ahead to see if the High street was a good idea. Site contact was expecting a 7.5t to deliver it but reckoned they’d just got a builders merchant 6w round last week.

I got there at 9 and just made it round through the arch (3 shunts) Unloaded on the High Street and blocked the traffic as every available space was full, had several people telling me that I’d not get around the East st, Lion St loop but I’d already decided against that. Getting out through Mint St was tight what with the scaffolding on the buildings but I made it unscathed.

So it is possible but worth avoiding. I told the hire company to send their own 7.5t back to collect it, think another visit might be pushing my luck.

Thanks for help.
