Rust in Greece

Whats the vent on the side did the early 88’s have that ?

So would this be a L4951 Titan or a F88 ?

Low indicators, so probably an F88. All the L4951s I have seen on the internet have the high indicators.

Yes.

After long absence back again with some news. I had a close look of the truck. To be honest not that close because the cab is a giant wasp nest.I have to say that must be F88. The truck has an indicator low at the right side. With millions of wasps around it was impossible to lift the cab (if could be lifted anymore)and have a look at the engine which would be the safest way to tell. The owner also told me that as far as he knows the truck is F88.
The only sure thing is that the truck is in really bad condition. The cab is rotten. Windows left open and rain made big damage.
Back soon with new material

Well done Gr. Now we know. It may, at some time in the future, provide parts for the restoration of an early 88, or even a 495! On the subject of yellow-striped stinging insects and 495s, I have found this site: buzzybeeforum.nl/viewtopic.php?f=158&t=13450

(For strong players) Any idea of what could this be?
Does not seems British due to left hanger may be German, French or even Yank.

Some decades younger than the previous but already a classic. The old Globe recently retired.

Hi Gr Diesels,

if this is, what i think it is, the german collectors will run mad.
In my opinion (i’m not sure 100%) this is a vomag.
A very very rare german lorry.
Hope you keep an eye on it.
Would be very sad, if it will be scrapped!

Best wishes!
Unterflur

Morning all, yes unerflur, its a Vomag!! There is also one in a yard just outside Bordeaux! I saw it when I went down to collect my LB76, not (under any circumstance for sale, I was told). That was the only one that I had ever seen, “in the flesh”, before GRs photo. Are there any preserved in Germany? Cheerio for now.

Hi saviem!

Klich through these few pages:
baumaschinenbilder.de/forum/ … ight=vomag

This lorry has to be saved!
I think there are less than ten of them in germany and most of them were found after the end of the ddr.
Very very rare!

I know of a few in the UK that would like that Globetrotter to restore as well.is it for sale.

I will be very happy if i can help this lorry’s salvage , even if this means that it has to left Greece. I will try to contact the owner and have a closer look to make sure what really is.
I hope within next week i will be back with more photos and info.
Regards!

First we have to be sure that this really is a vomag.
I asked in our german forum but still got no answer.
I got more knowledge about the lorries in the seventies/eighties.

I’m sure there were some modifications made.
The sides of the bonnet look a little like the hanomag ones.
Would be great if you could get some more informations/pictures.

I know that is now retired and will be for sale soon. I will let you know.
In the mean time have another Globe rusting in Greece!

Hi all!

Saviem and i were wrong.
Gr Diesels truck in Greece is a Skoda.

Hi all!

Unterflur you re so right! I just switched on my pc to tell you my fresh news, but you already found out.
I couldn’t resist this morning and went on spot for closer inspection. The truck as you can see is a SKODA model 1956 built by LIAZ in Czechoslovakia. It stands there for at least 30 years resulting some consequences to its old body. In its previous life was lifting and carrying marble blocks in a quarry. The engine is a massive beast for the 1950’s standards.

Evening all, unterflur, GRdiesels, I need spectacles!!! I could have sworn that that was a Vomag!!

But the one near Bordeaux certainly is! The owner is the son of a German gentleman, who stayed post 45, having married a French girl. They have a reasonable Vinyard, and I have known father, and son since 76. The Vomag was acquired post the unification, from family connections in Leipzig, and transported down to Bordeaux for eventual rebuilding.

Both have a passion for older lorries, and own a Willeme “Shark Nose”, as well as two GL Berliets, and a Scania 140. The only other German lorry they have , again brought south to the sunshine, is a Krupp two stroke. But she is really quite poor.

I could get quite excited about GRs finds in Greece, …but my good lady, (of 40plus years), points out the bits of “debris” around the farm, not the least of which is my French LB76, and says , "hav`nt you got enough?? Well no!! …but its not easy to explain is it!!!

Cheerio for now.

Please do not appetite. The 140 has departed long time ago. (pic.from 1995)

After finished their second life in Greece , ready to start a new life in Middle East.

Hi all, great post, just to add that i do miss the ■■■■ ups in Athens whilst parked for the weekend, but happy to say i am continuing where i left off
When i worked for S.A.S. we had a fleet of left ■■■■■■ F88s all with the new type grill, and they were 290bhp..we also had a cpuple of older F88s but 240 bhp, couldnt pull the skin off a rice pudding. I was on S.A.S. when steve the pole was part of the furniture, along with wally tony` and others who i have forgotten, our boss was a woman but her sons ran the operation, after they sold the bromley site ( mega bucks ) for housing, they moved to thamesmead, but believe they have ceased trading. I moved on to RFS at erith when george dole drove the only left ■■■■■■ on greece work. by the way, i didnt like loading melons from the fields, can you tell someone please
